Steam Offline Mode Poll
If you have Steam I'd like you to participate in a short test.
1) Check Steam to make sure you Steam client is up to date.
2) Shut down Steam.
2) Disconnect your router.
3) Start up steam.
4) See if Steam gives you the option to start in Offline mode (this may take a little time initially I've found)
5) reconnect your router and report back your results. (Yes it started/No it didn't)
This is a public poll, so voters names are known. No votes made without further explanation will be discounted.

6) Tell us if you have your Steam username and password saved, or if you type it in every time you start up Steam again.

Edit: you don't need a wife for this step, just another Steam account that you sometimes access, will do.
Edit 2: I think the "yes" votes also need a post explaining what happened in order to be counted. *How* did it work as expected? In what way exactly was it perfectly ok?

It worked fine for me (as it has done for the past few years) - my login details are stored.Steam ID: Fiyenyaa.

Worked for me, but I should add that while I've only had to use offline mode a handful of times it has failed for me twice - in one case my router was still connected by the connection was down, and the solution was to physically disconnect it, so maybe Steam has issues when it detects a connection is there but is unable to actually connect. The other time I think it just randomly started working after a few false tries, I don't recall actually figuring out the cause.

Worked flawlessly for me over a Verizon 3G air card. (Steam credentials are remembered) I simply disconnected the WWAN between Steam runs.

You don't need to physically pull any cables - disabling the network in Windows will do. In my experience, Steam won't start in offline mode if it detects a network, regardless of whether you have internet access through it.

So, this fix listed in the Steam Client patch notes doesn't really work then?
"Fixed offline mode not working if there was no remembered password"

Kadayi will win this argument even if he has to kill everybody to do so.
Now we know his hot button is an IT Helpdesk.
