Yup I love 'em. Cursing myself a bit for not getting into them sooner as I was at uni in Glasgow when they started out (had a couple of friends who went to a lot of their gigs when Midnight Organ Fight was released, would love to have seen those performances). Still haven't seen them live but they are on my list.

I've been really into Frightened Rabbit lately too.

This past weekend it's been all Kanye West's new album, though, which isn't as good as My Dark Twisted Fantasy, but still pretty good:

I'm on another Oceansize trip. They're one of my absolute favourite bands and while Amplifier is an excellent alternative, it still is a huge loss.

Soundtrack from the Maniac remake, can grab it on the Death Waltz label. Synth goodness.

Maniac is the American Psycho of misogyny.

New Boards of Canada is leaving a me a bit cold. I'm consoling myself with this mix of obscure/rare early stuff:

Haven't got my hands on the new BoC yet but the few tracks I've heard haven't exactly melted my brain. It's the same formula, which isn't bad just... yeah. New OPN is altogether more exciting.

And I've been lax in promoting all things Laurel Halo. Her last EP went back to more dancefloor orientated stuff.

A lot of people seem a bit underwhelmed by the latest Boc album. Haven't been able to give a full listen yet, but I must admit it feels like a few decent tunes surrounded by some largely unmemorable ones. I literally didn't notice the 3 songs in between 'reach for the dead' and 'cold earth' and that's rather troubling in my view, but saying that given the long absence I'll take a mediocre BoC album over nothing.

Maybe it's a grower. cheers for the link BTW Dubbill. :)

Yeah I don't want to be too dismissive without giving it a few plays through, it's still BoC after all.

I've been listening to the new Camera Obscura, which was my most anticipated album of the year. I like it. Some of the songs have grown on me - especially the title track, which I love - but I still think Cri de Coeur is a load of wank.

Plenty of good tracks, but I don't think I will ever love this one the way I love Underachievers Please Try Harder or parts of the other three. (edit: Actually, I already had a mini-letdown with MMC, so let's say the other two. And I don't want to sound overly negative here: depending on when you ask me, Camera Obscura are somewhere in my top 3 bands ever, so I hold them to a pretty high standard...)

I'm also a bit disappointed that Neko Case was used so sparingly, although literally nothing in the world could have lived up to the excitement I felt at the thought of her and Tracyanne Campbell on the one record. 'Every Weekday' is pretty great, anyway.

Unrelated to the new album, but wonderful:

I don't hate it and I like a lot of what it does but it's more Boards of Canada, rather than exciting new Boards of Canada. It's playing now and I'm enjoying it, but it sounds like the winner of a BoC album sound-alike competition.

White Cyclosa and Jacquard Causeway are distinct enough but they may sound a bit like a build up toward something. A certain song may feel like a filler so I guess it's best to be listened in one go (who doesn't anyway?). I don't take much liking from Behind the Green Door to be honest as I'd expect more like Sunlight On the Faded. I guess because it somehow manages to make me feel quite claustrophobic.
