There's a balance to be struck between being accessible to someone who's not a film buff or a fan of the specific subgenre and having insider fun with the source material. What I mean is, if it's a good movie it should stand on its own merits, and you should be able to appreciate it for what it is, even if you don't like or don't know anything about its inspirations.

I'm not exactly a kungfu movie fan (hell I'm not even sure I've seen just one Bruce Lee movie /before/ KB), but enjoyed KB a great deal nonetheless.

I agree the first half is kinda shitty but when Kurt Russell looks at the camera and smiles the movie suddenly becomes awesome.
I walked out of the cinema pretty disappointed after Death Proof, then watched it again on DVD years later and magically it clicked with me and had great fun. Tell me about the importance of expectations.

Kurt Russell is just great and probably not nearly as appreciated as he should be. I loved him in Big Trouble in Little China and can't think of any actor who've been able to do a Snake Plissken character AND then turn it upside down into a comedic role with the degree of confidence and the effectiveness Kurt Russell achieved.

PS: I re-watched Escape from NY a couple weeks ago after a long, long time. That movie really deserves a special place among the classics.

Earlier today I watched Ted and it was a fun movie.

Just now I watched Frozen and it wasn't.

If graphics are not important why spend so much on a GPU?

I watched Kitano's Outrage and Sonatine today. Despite their superficial similarities - rival Yakuza at war - I was surprised by how poignant and even kind of beautiful Sonatime was after watching Outrage. I recommend them both, but for entirely different reasons.

Incredibly excited for the Outrage sequel.

first I though its one of this strange films, where you asking yourself "why am I watching this again?" but than I really enjoyed the story and the implementation

The Amazing Spider-man was one of those movies that have that awfully slow pacing yet, ironically, felt rushed. Felt like it dragged on long before Parker becomes Spider-man but all the important parts before that were left unexplained or just far too brief in favour for all the little things in the movie. But, it was okay overall. The action's fun to watch and Garfield's Spidey was great (though, not his Parker). Not bad, not great either.

Anyways, watched Hero, a few days before that. Love wuxia movies but I watched the terrible dubbed version instead of a decently subbed one. It's basically a story about a plan to kill Emperor Qin. Big twist and watching that last scene where Jet Li died, executed by those raining arrows was probably the best scene in the movie. And it's somewhat familliar... Maybe a movie involving greeks? Hmm...

I recently watched The Outlaw Josey Wales. After reading somewhere that Clint Eastwood regards it as one of his best movies I thought it might be good, but I was really disappointed. Almost everything about it was below par and the latter half was just boring.

Oh right. I thought you meant the whole of Hero, not just the bit with the arrows
