    2D googles?

I just went to check what was on steam to find this game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/110610/

That reminded me of tumble pop/snow bros/prehistoric man

20 years and still looks better, or am I wearing 2D glasses? Most of low-budget 3D games look from ok to decent this times, but they lack the charm old arcades had, and the animations look worse than a 8 frames walking animation in Shock Troopers, Sunset Riders or Top Hunters...

With 2D they had to draw in a lot of personality, but that meant they could convey a lot too. Even the very nice 3D characters today can't quite bring over the same artist love as the old 8 and 16 bit sprites.

Exactly, it's a matter or art style. That said there are too many attempts to cash in on the indie name by simply building a 2nd rate platformer and tossing together some uninspired graphics, relying on the 'retro' look to gain sales.
