Carbon-based Anatomy is absolutely fantastic EP. I like the new sound of Cynic more and more.

Oh, and NASUM is going for a farewell tour. Yes, it's been ages since Mieszji Talarczyk died in the tsunami, but it's okay, it's NASUM. And Keijo from Rotten Sound as vocalist.

Remember to feed the bass directly through the mixing desk, that's key to getting it to sound right.

Fuck Rhapsody, I get my symphonic metal direct from Atlantis.

Possibly :) There's a clean channel recorded through the desk and a distorted one through a mic. Next time I'm going to put loads of mics on the amp though....

I'm not a die-hard Slayer fan or anything, but this is just badass.

It's quite a pleasant surprise to see such a thread on this forum. Death Strike in particular...

Metalcore doesn't necessarily have to be a dirty term.

Its weird as during the 90s or the first half of the last decade I cant remember hearing that term at all, then suddenly if it was angry and shouty and did not fit into death metal or grind people just lumped it as Deathcore and it got spat on. Got a load of shit from people for having Today is the Day albums a couple of years back.

/end phil anselmo old man rant

The first place I read the term was on the sticker on the cover of Hate, Fear and Power by Hirax that I bought back in 1998 when I didn't have a turntable to play it on and that album was originally released in 1986. "A major step-forward for Orange County's raging metal-core band. Heavy drums, grinding axes and melodic vocals all in a flash of energy." That was back before D.R.I. popularised the term "crossover" with that album of theirs. It's funny how certain things get popular at the expense of others and how such a wide-reaching term can be narrowed into describing a sub-genre of a sub-genre but people can be pretty reductionist at times.

I'd rather listen to Raging Violence and H,F&P than anything by D.R.I. because they're both boss. I probably should have used these songs to represent metalcore but Hirax don't have a vocalist who uses a saw blade as a microphone stand.

Was it Kierkegaard or Dick Van Patten who said "If you label me, you negate me?"

Kierkegaard said a lot of things.

Not Christmas themed but.. ehh.. not really a lot of metal is..

There's a Twisted Sister record but that's awful...

I suppose snow is *connected* with Christmas. Christmas is pretty grim and, depending on your location, usually frostbitten... so yeah, black metal is fairly Christmasy.
