Agreed, they really put on a good show. I even prefer some live versions over the original recordings, 'Face of Melinda' for example.
Ghost Reveries is really underrated, the songs you posted are in my Opeth top 10 too. My favorite album would probably be Still Life tho.
Brocas Helm! And Candlemass, of course. I like.

We'll need umlauts as well, above the 'r'.
Next stop, King Diamond. He is my avatar so it's about time his presence was felt.
Only three pages, and somebody's already posted Meshuggah. Excellent. I like where this is going.
Speaking of excessively technical metal, here's the first track from Origin's newest offering. It Is Not For Everyone(TM).

Not strictly metal but people who enjoy metal should probably like it:
Am really into black metal in the vein of Wolves In The Throne Room:
As much as I love it I feel like I need to balance out all this double kick drum goodness. Slow it down a touch.
My favourite Opeth track, just because I love them so much.
I've always felt this band was very RPS, for some reason. Mostly because of all the horrible puns, I guess. Best folk-metal band I've ever heard, and oh, so british:
As for newer stuff, the latest Agalloch CD hasn't left rotation since I got it:
The whole thing is stunningly good.
I love metal but finding good metal is incredibly difficult, so this thread is awesome. My favourite stuff is brutal whilst still being catchy and technically interesting, which is an incredibly difficult mark to hit. Opeth do it for me almost routinely, Necrophagist do sometimes, and I've seen both of those guys in this thread which makes me happy. I didn't see any Hate though, check it out:
Kalmah, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Amon Amarth, Within Temptation (going to a concert in NYC in September), Blind Guardian, Aria, Rhapsody.
When Electric Wizard changed ranks their rythm section went on to form Ramesses. Take the Curse is even nastier than Dopethrone, ridiculous!
Watching From A Distance is a really good album. Warning was a great band.
Winter only did a demo, an album and an EP but all of it is golden. As you can see they even got a video out which is puzzling as I just don't see where anyone playing doom this slow could have got the money for such a thing (yeah, the old "there's no money in doom" line).
A doom post without Pentagram... blasphemy. Cut from Sub-Basement 'cause it's heavy as hell and better than Review Your Choices which I really liked. A lot.
Don't mean to be continually posting, but metal has given me so much joy over the years that I love sharing and finding out about new bands :)
Just back from Download. Instant convert to this lot.
It's ragga metal, and you can bite my bawsack.
Seen this bunch a couple of times supporting DEP and Rolo Tomassi.
