    Questionnaire for college research

    First of all thankyou for taking the time to read this, and please complete fully where able. I understand there may be some faults with the questionnaire as i am very pressed for time, i am not worried about the quality of the questionnaire but the results.

    The questionaire will be asking about various aspects of games in general, and the answers provided will be used as research evidence, to support a game idea i am having to produce for my Games Development college course. The details of any users who complete this questionaire will not be logged or used in my work, the answers are all i am interested in. Thankyou again Adamfp3


    1. How do you like the NPC’s to appear?
    a) Weaker than you (helpless)
    b) On par with your characters ability (similar power)
    c) Stronger than you (Makes you feel weaker)

    2. How would you like NPCs to react towards you?
    a) Aggressive
    b) Passive
    c) Admiration towards you
    d) Unaware
    e) Dislike you for who you are (because of inhuman powers)

    3. Do you enjoy a game with two entirely separate endings?
    a) Yes
    b) No

    4. Do you enjoy having secondary/bonus objectives?
    a) Yes
    b) No

    5. How would you like missions to occur?
    a) A single mission per level (Quick Story Progression)
    b) Missions that span multiple levels (slower, but larger story progression)

    6. In a linear style game how do you like to unlock skills?
    a) Unlocking skills at critical points in the game
    b) Levelling and then unlocking at choice
    c) No character skill unlocking, all skills available at the beginning

    7. If choice ‘c’ in previous question, would you prefer?
    a) Ability to upgrade skills at critical points in game
    b) Skills upgrade the more you use them
    c) You collect a currency to buy upgrades

    8. A possible unique idea for our game is that however well u do in the level affects the style of the cutscene at the end, low score=less stylish cutscene, high score=very stylish cutscene.
    Would you enjoy this system implemented in a game?
    a) Yes
    b) No

    9. Do you enjoy collecting collectables?
    a) Yes
    b) No

    10. If answered yes to previous question
    How would you like to collect these collectables?
    a) Hidden collectables, encourages exploration
    b) Collectables found by completing pre set challenges (certain number of kills etc.)

    11. Would you want to see useable items in a game, for example Turret, Shield, speed boost and cloak?
    a) Yes
    b) No

    12. If the PC had inhuman capabilities would you like physics applied that reflect that (throws further, hits harder)?
    a) Yes
    b) No

    13. How would you like physics applied to bullets from weapons?
    a) Realistic (will penetrate through materials they would in real life)
    b) Restricted (Do not penetrate any surfaces)
    c) Un-Realistic (will penetrate materials they would not in real life)

    14. Would you like combos in game to lead to critical hits with equipped weapon?
    a) Yes
    b) No

    15. As the combat in our game is face paced, for lower difficulties, easy and medium, would you like and aim assist feature?
    a) Yes
    b) No

    16. When playing in fast paced combat games, do you like prompts for critical moves and evasion?
    a) Yes for both
    b) No for both
    c) Yes for prompts
    d) Yes for evasion

    17. If answered a,c or d in the previous question, what difficulty would you like to see this implemented up to?
    a) Easy
    b) Medium
    c) Hard
    d) Very Hard

    18. Do you like a navigation feature, which can be toggled, to guide you to your objective?
    a) Yes
    b) No

    19. How would you like to switch weapons?
    a) Cycling
    b) Through a GUI

    20. What kind of boss fights would you enjoy most?
    a) Highly skilled fights in which the player must use a range of techniques in order to win
    b) Long fights lasting for a large period of time but with cut scenes along the way adding to the story
    c) Short and sweet
    d) lots of action filled cinematic that progress the story but very little fighting(more story based

    21. How hard would you like the boss battles to be?
    a) Hard (the boss is massively superior and the player can expect to die multiple times before beating them)
    b) Medium (if mistakes are made the player will die but if performed correctly the player will win)
    c) Easy (where the player has to use little skill to defeat the boss)

    22. How would you like pickups to appear?
    a) Easy to locate with a highlighted ring around them
    b) Difficult to find and often hidden from the player
    c) Textured in order to fit in with the game (for example canned food for health)
    d) Textured so it is easy to distinguish what they are (generic white box red cross for health

    Pro-tip: Google Docs is a great way of creating a quick, free survey that automatically collects your results. So much better.

    Wouldn't using surveymonkey or something like its ilk be massively easier for collating the data?

    1. B, I suppose. But I like variety, so really, all of the above.

    8. Hm... not sure. I'd probably go with B, if we're counting "score" and not mission performance in the sense of accomplishing secondary objectives or whatnot. I'm usually not a fan of racking up huge scores.

    14. B. Well, not sure. I don't know how much I like the notion of a combo system. I'd have to know what kind of game it is.
    15. B. No. But I really liked how Mount and Blade did it, in which you could choose how fast your enemies would react in combat, so you could make a custom difficulty level in which you were blazing fast compared to most enemies.
