Thread: PC Bargains

Out of interest am I correct in understanding that GMG doesn't have a gift option on their store?

It's somewhat annoying the regional restrictions that EA's placed on GMG.

Don't GMG just give you the game key?

You could just forward the key onto whoever you want to gift it to.

EA has regional restrictions on every digital store that I know of.

Given you can't even see the games in their catalogue, as opposed to somewhere like Gamefly where you can see just can't touch (buy), you can't even tell if something is simply a key or requires capsule download. Of course without a proper gift function the game is technically still tied to the purchasers account at GMG (probably not a major issue if you know the kind sole who is smuggling for you).

Now you mention it Avish, I note that the same issue exists on Gamersgate - e.g. I can buy the guides and soundtrack for ME games but not the games themselves.

I can buy EA games from gamersgate.co.uk but not from gamersgate.com.
It's actually the only place (besides Origin) that I can buy EA games from.

For Steam games, they certainly do, however, as I discovered much to my chagrin, you can't purchase multiple copies of the same game. I gifted a copy of LOTR War in the North to a mate about a month ago and, subsequently, was unable to purchase a second copy for myself as GMG informed me that I already owned it. Lesson learned. :(

That's a bit lame. I know amazon tell you "you already own this" but they won't stop you buying another copy.

Forgot about that. Anyway, I've sidetracked things enough.

GMG looks like they've put up a midweek Civ V sale (75% off for Base Game / Gold Pack / God & Kings and 50% for the DLC.

Oh and they've a new 20% off voucher up: GMG20-NT7TS-SY2RT valid until 4pm GMT 22/03/2013

I have bought EA games from Amazon US, and I'm in Ireland, with no problem.

Gamefly have a Spring Break sale on - nothing really exciting other than Torchlight II is 4.99 which is the first time I've seen it cheaper than we group-bought it at launch for (just under 7 all done).

No link because it's a regional store which breaks almost any link you try - it's there for UK and US at least tho.

    Startopia really is a gem.

Edit: Wow, Sleeping Dogs is a fiver, too: https://store.eu.square-enix.com/eme...ed-Edition.php

Edit 2: There are a ton of great deals there -- lots of stuff 75% off.

The updated Final Fantasy VII is also 50% off there. Is this version worth a shot?

    I never played the original.

Unless you have a severe case of nostalgia goggles, then I'd say no.

The version from their store apparently has limited, non-revokable installation limits, and it's rumored to be coming to Steam (hopefully without those things). I think the game is extremely overhyped, but if you're interested in it I'd suggest waiting.

Overhyped or not, FF7 is still a decent game. It hasn't aged terribly well, and I'm not sure if the enhancements in the new edition improve on that all that much.

That's pretty much it. My first JRPG was Breath of Fire, and I thought it was really good. But then I played a little of it recently and it turns out that for the genre, it's really bland.

My main problem with FF7 is that the 'tutorial area' is like 25% of the game. That and I just didn't like the materia system.

How could Final Fantasy VII possibly be overhyped? It was the killer app for the PSX. It influenced countless other games, including Planescape: Torment. It made having a complex story a thing. Overall it was a groundbreaking release and it arguably heaved the medium to a new level in many ways.
Is it a perfect, flawless game? No, of course not. Don't be ridiculous.
Even if you don't like the game - and I don't -, to deny its impact is nothing but ignorant.
