I think FF7 does something very well which is why it struck a nerve with lots of people: it delivered a great children's story using next-gen technology (er, for the time). I can look back now and see FF7 wasn't/isn't the greatest game ever that I used to think it was, but it's still a pretty great game. If it's going cheap I'd suggest trying it, there's loads of fun to be had.

But the way it's presented isn't actually very child friendly, as in Cloud is just doing it for money etc. I don't think VII has some revelatory deep plot or anything, but I don't think it's a story for kids either.
