Thanks to both you for pointing that out and to gamersgate for the blue coins that made it free. :)

It's the drifting stuff isn't it? I get how it works in theorycraft but the reality is so different. On grid, they let you skip the 24 hour race for a reason, don't be ashamed.

Dirt 2 is best experienced in multiplayer, don't worry about gfwl, it seems to cope, I guess because lag can be graciously handled by predictions.

Dirt 1 I never game a fair run, should go back to it.

Drifting is not racing. I play racing games to go fast, not to slowly slide around corners. Drifting can bite me.

Yes. It's absolutely horrific, especially when it's mandatory to proceed.

Yup. It pretty much killed a generation of racing games for me.

Does anyone know if Shift 2 has drifting events?

Did you know the codemasters games drifting is easier with driving assistance off? It's massively easier.

Looks like yes, but they aren't compulsory.
Edit: Scratch that it looks like they might be..

    Here's some which even right!
Another aspect of the game rankles: presumably to ensure that it sells well in Japan and the US, drifting has been included. This kicks off with a tutorial which is not only impossible but unspeakably tedious – although I did discover that you can cheat by engaging reverse gear and slamming on full throttle and lock. It was impossible to detect even a milligram of fun in the drifting element of the game.
From a Grauniad review. Other bits seems to indicate that you can ignore them. I think that they might be part of your career path whatever (and there might be a tutorial you get stuck with) but they don't have to matter.

Xenus II (aka White Gold) and Precursors are 75% off instead of the usual 50% on Gamersgate. You want these.

Precursors has full-blown Starforce as its DRM. You emphatically do NOT want that. It's a shame, too, as the game does look awesome.

GamersGate has Pride of Nations (1.70EUR) & Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum (5.99EUR) as their daily deals. I am tempted by both, heard some good things about PoN in Episode 121 of ThreeMovesAhead.

Company of Heroes is on sale on GamersGate, too.
    Company of Heroes - £2.49
    Opposing Fronts - £1.74
    Gold (CoH+OF) - £3.74
    Tales of Valor - £2.25

DO NOT buy the Complete edition, with all three. It is more expensive than Gold + ToV.

I have vanilla COH and Opposing Fronts - and I believe that I heard Tales of Valor wasn't that good? I might buy it at that price just to get some new army men to play with and get back into the multiplayer side of things.

Heh. I just broke my 'no buying games you don't plan to play in the next fortnight' rule with PoN, but given that I had 3000 blue coins lying around it seemed fair enough. Mind you, if vinraith finds it hard going I'm not sure how well I'll manage.
