Indeed, only the Steam version is Steamworks - just like Arkham City.

Impulse has The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena on for $9.99 USD. Comes bundled with Escape from Butcher Bay, which is a pretty good deal if you haven't had a chance to play either of the games.

Well, every version comes bundled with Butcher Bay, Dark Athena has always been bundled with it.
GreenManGaming have a few deals on atm - most outstanding being Driver: SF for £6-odd
It's a fantastic game - if you don't love it to bits you should give-up playing any other arcade driving game EVER - simple as.
Easily my game of last year...
FEAR 3 is only $7.68 on GMG. One of the best recent shooters. Certainly much better than Project Origin and feels closer to the original.
I'm failing to writing a blog, specifically about playing games the wrong way

UBIDRM in the case of Driver:SF consists of it installing UPlay and doing a on-off check when you install it. I didn't have to create an account (tho I've done so previously on this PC I think so perhaps you would)
My copy came from GetGames and had no other DRM included - don't see why GmG would force any!?
After that you can tick the 'offline' box and forget it exists.
Loads of people moaned that Driver was included in their server shutdown debacle but they all ignored that 'offline' tickbox which would have let them play (in the same way Steam Offline does - basically it needs to be online ONCE to enable that).

Shogun 2 is currently £4.99 on Amazon (UK), which seems like a pretty decent deal.
They also have Fall of the Samurai for £15.23, which is also cheaper than anywhere else I've seen it.
Looks to be UK only, sale over now.

It's a bit like Anno but not. Think what would happen if Related Designs, Blue Bye and Paradox Interactive had a strange love child, and that's Patrician IV.
I've only played a bit of the base game, and it's a little strange for new players, but I thought it was okay. Thinking about the expansion but not sure.
If Patrician IV sounds like a thing you'll like, you'll probably like it. It's a good trading/economic sim, where you start with one ship and build up to a vast, semi-automated trading empire.
If you've already played Patrician 2/3 though, there's nothing new.
