Here's an obscure old game that might appeal to people looking for something unique. Dot Emu have Hardwar on sale this weekend for USD $4.19. Hardwar is a trading and combat game similar to Elite set on Saturn's moon Titan. It was originally released in 1998. The game has a small cult following and is still being played and modded today. It is quite immersive as a sim as the enemy AI has it's own motivations (pirate / trade / factions / police etc) and the economy is dynamic. The graphics - while very dated now - are the closest video games have been to Chris Foss's paintings.

I got it working on windows 7 64 bit. I just had to set compatibility mode to windows XP SP3. Word of warning - to really enjoy this game you will need a Joystick. Dissapointingly the soundtrack for the game is not provided in the dotemu version.
I remember hardwar, an awesome game well worth buying.
Earth 2150 trilogy is 60% off on GOG today. If you're starved for some RTS, it might be worth a look because I remember these to be pretty good.

*blush* I'm flattered by the attention boys, but please let's not make the thread about liddle old me
You should be able to get a controller to work, provided it uses the standard windows mappings. The soundtrack is completely missing - I dug out my disc version of the game and stuck it in the drive while playing and the CD drive spun up to play the music - so the game is expecting to play it from a disc that is not there - they have not included the music in the download at all.Max, will a controller work Vs a joystick? Also are you saying there's no music in the game at all, or merely that there is no seperate soundtrack?
That said you can get MP3's of the original game music from here:

Captain Zedo ripped and uploaded the tracks from both discs.
Oh another thing I only got it running in 1280*1024 resolution. It let me select 1920*1080 but crashed when I launched my moth.
Morrowind: GOTY Edition is $12 on Direct2Drive today.

A few things in the Game summer sale that might interest folks here.
Lego Star Wars: Clone Wars - £16
Force Unleashed 2 - £9
TDU2 - £13
Dungeon Siege 3 - £17
Haven't played The Clone Wars, Force Unleashed 2 is more of the same but with less environments and feels shorter, TDU2 is a game that I enjoyed greatly and is well worth that price.
Thinking of picking up Dungeon Siege 3 at that price. Should I? Is it worth it or should I hold out a few months to see if it gets a better discount in the Steam weekend deal or something?
Well, that's a difficult question to answer. But I wouldn't pay £17 for it. Maybe £7.
Check out Tom Chick's review of the XBOX version. He tends to be spot on with his reviews.

So I'm the developer of two games... Bionic Heart and Planet Stronghold.
I don't want to comment on quality since it's not fair. I can point you to some videos though (there are free demos of all games):

Haven't played BG&E but its reputation precedes. As someone that literally gave up on the first AssCreed, I thought 2 was FANTASTIC. Addictive, beautiful, the story is still crap but it doesn't get in the way, and just the right amount of progression to keep me going. I loved it. That said, getting all the feathers is still stupid hard and my one complaint about the game was that I couldn't 100% it because of the tedium of hunting those buggers down. Well worth $3, it's an enormous game.
Hm considering I liked the 1st Assassin Creed, will surely get the 2nd at that price :)

BG&E is a great action/adventure game that provides something nicely different. Combat is very light because combat isn't the main focus. The story is good fun and the gameplay is great. Your main weapon is a camera and the female lead isn't rubbish. That alone is an achievement in gaming.
Wonderful atmosphere and overall design as well. It's not all-around perfect but the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Definitely a game to try.
Give me steam and how you feel to make it real.
AssCreed 2 is excellent, even if you didn't particularly like the first one. The basic mechanics of running about and stabbing are the same, though there are some improvements. The nice thing is that there's an actual game there and a personable main character.
BG&E is well worth playing, but it's slightly awkward to control on the PC. I got used to it after a couple hours, but it's not the slickest game out there. The characters, world, and story are good, though.
