I found it to be... hrm... closest description I can think of is "an acquired taste"; As the game progresses, you have to pick much more carefully your decisions, and more important than that, manage your squads, choose carefully the members, skills, gear, and leader. It ends up having an enormous impact on the battle.
It's a game that feels simple, but once you get a bunch of hours into it, you start realizing there certainly is a level of complexity at work.
But yeah, try the demo, it's a very weird game, not for all tastes. Plus if your PC is a bit old it might struggle with it, not the cleanest of ports that one.
