Deal of the Day on Steam is GTA Vice City for 1.49

I can't really speak to the quality of the PC port as it's eons since I tried it - but a better GTA game was never made - hell a better example of OTT gameplay and crazyness probably never existed...

It's Retro City Rampage but with a GAME in it :)

I was never huge on Vice City. It had its moments, but it felt like it got too focused on the real estate aspect.

PC port seemed fully functional though, but not sure how it has aged (check the steam forums if you aren't running XP).

For my money, Vice City is the best GTA game ever made. It was big enough, but not too big. It had comedy, drama, and massive dollops of atmosphere. Some of the missions are brilliant even now.

I think as a game, San Andreas was better, it was simply more 'gamey'. But as a general entertainment product, Vice City was better. It captured its setting really well and felt like the Scarface type movie they were aiming for.

Then 4 came along and was neither very gamey, nor was its story particularly interesting.

    Yeah, it goes:

    1. San Andreas
    2. Vice City
    3. GTA 4
    4. GTA 3

Number 3 might even be better than number 4, but it's been so long since I've played it that I can't remember. All I remember about 3 is mostly just being pissed that there were no motorcycles.

    NONONO

San Andreas is a miserable game with all the fun leeched out of it. Lampposts, once things to use to kill pedestrians with, not actually damage you car!

Gone are those crazy missions which involve mass murder on an epic scale too - SA is the start of the 'grimification' of GTA and it's po-faced and nasty IMO

There's plenty of missions involving murder on an epic scale in San Andreas. Military bases, casinos, gang territories, pimp hideouts etc etc.

Hum... I'll stick with San Andreas. Huge map, lots of customization, the "driving licences" were awesome, races, had mountains, hills and deserts, planes (something I missed in every other GTA)... I mean... It had too much awesomeness.

I did love that San Andreas had very distinct areas. If GTA V can capture the city like they did on IV but have the silly funtimes like SA, then it's going to be great.

Stealing alien green goo from a heavily armed military train while riding a jet pack. That is the entirety of that sentence.

There was too much in SA for me. Too many things to keep track of, too many missions to do, too many things making me feel like I wouldn't really have played the game unless I put hundreds of hours into it.
Vice City was almost always fun, (comparitively) concise, and just had a far better setting.

San Andreas is probably my favourite game of all time. GTA IV graphics + San Andreas hijinks = GTA V? I'd be extremely happy.

"Mass murder on an epic scale" is probably my least favorite thing about the Grand Theft Auto series.

Yes, because DEFCON is far better at it.

I remember failing a mission in SA and had to fly all the way back to the mission starting area. Really pissed me off because it took damn near 2 minutes of flying lol.

I don't get this threadtopicnazi nonsense -we're on a gaming forum and we're talking about games - no-one is forcing you to join in or listen or read it or whatever...

In real life, do you interrupt people's real conversations to keep them on-topic in the right location - e.g. no talking work in the breakroom or football at the watercooler or anything but tits in the pub?? :)

The Internet is too full of nerds who want everything tidied away and classified and boxed and not to be extradited for their actions - if you ask me :)

Additionally, aren't these people discussing a PC game bargain ... in the PC game bargains thread?

Hell yeah - it may ramble a bit but I find a lot of the 'side' discussions here actually sell me the game - that's why I read this thread really.

There's loads of places I can go if I just want an introvenous feed of cheap games, after all - it's games and coaxing reasons to play them that we get here :)

Just got an email from Green Man Gaming, not exactly a bargain per se but they give you cash back in cash or credit when you preorder Bioshock Infinite - €49.99

"Pre-purchase from Green Man Gaming and get either cashback or creditback as a reward! Dollar users have the choice of $15 credit or $10 cashback, and Euro users have a choice of €9 credit or €5 cashback.

*Currently not available in the UK, Japan, or Russia. We are not able to offer this title in Burma, China, Cuba, Iran, N. Korea, Sudan, Syria, or Venezuela. Vouchers are not valid on BioShock Infinite."

So not available for UK folk, because they have dropped from the EU or something it seems. The credit brings the price down to €40.99 in euro land, which doesn't seem a great deal, but if you use that credit on the site, you could get something for free on the site, like "a game of dwarves". Which is tempting. It may be a better deal in US.
