I'm not sure it invented anything new in the genre, but it certainly did almost everything to a high standard and packaged it up in a way that hadn't been seen before. The hipsters doing down FFVII as only being special to younger (errr... late 20 something) gamers are misguided in their scorn.
I think FF7 does something very well which is why it struck a nerve with lots of people: it delivered a great children's story using next-gen technology (er, for the time). People who to this day still love children's stories (even if they're 40 yrs old dads) will always love FF7.

Personally, it was all a bit naff to me.

I can look back now and see FF7 wasn't/isn't the greatest game ever that I used to think it was, but it's still a pretty great game. If it's going cheap I'd suggest trying it, there's loads of fun to be had.

FFVII is a childrens story? Doesn't the game start with you blowing up reactor and killing lots of innocents?

Steam has just posted a pretty huge indie sale.

Also, Dark Souls is 50% off for the weekend.

The point is in VII it's you doing that, not the bad guys.

But the way it's presented isn't actually very child friendly, as in Cloud is just doing it for money etc. I don't think VII has some revelatory deep plot or anything, but I don't think it's a story for kids either.

I guess that makes Schindler's List a children's story too...? I'm not really getting your point of view.

About that- is anyone seeing a way to list all the deals? When I click the indie sale banner it takes me to a page that only features six games, then links to a few more from IGF and PAX.

If you have a mobile device you might want to hold off as they just announced iOS and Android versions coming out this summer.

GoGs weekend sale includes Rollercoaster Tycoon.

I loved me some Theme Park back in the day. How does Rollercoaster Tycoon hold to that? They have 1,2 and 3 on sale, what would be best?

Indie shooter/strategy hybrid Natural Selection 2 is 50% off and has a free weekend on steam. If you've been waiting to try it out, then now's your chance.

If you fancy trying the game alongside some decent fellows with varying, sexy European accents, then join the growing ranks of Rock, Paper, Skulk.

We'll be playing from around 7pm GMT on Sunday.
