Ladies and Gentlemen,
I give you Entanglement - http://entanglement.gopherwoodstudios.com/

I think of [the Internet] as a grisly raw steak laid out on a porcelain benchtop in the sun, covered in chocolate hazelnut sauce. In the background plays Stardust’s Music Sounds Better With You. There’s lots of fog. --tomeoftom
They suck. No, really. They seem to be the least effective type of alien so far. I have to yet discover what makes them special.

A very well-done Zelda-like. There may be more to it than that, I haven't finished it. (I'm a wuss.)

Follow-on to the Trader of Stories (Bell's Heart) from a couple of years ago. They're both nice point-and-click adventures.

Okay, I looked up what blue aliens do. They're called glue aliens. When they spit at a soldier, he has 1 less Movement point in the next round. Like I said not lethal, but better medals are all about speedruns, and Movement points are the main bottleneck. Most of the time you want to move your soldiers as fast as possible.
I've finished the game, but the game is fun to replay for better scores.

Bit Dungeon anyone?

Also, it's worth mentioning that the new street fighter x megaman game is going to be freeware. And is released next monday.
My scores so far:
You can do better than Diamond medal on some missions. I had 1 unused turn on mission 3 (where Woods is waiting with ammo) and a few others. Notably, I used 13 out of 15 turns for 11th mission. Can you beat that ?

Hope I'm not disturbing the balance by resurrecting this thread, but I left out The Desolate Hope last time - probably didn't think of it as it's a download. It's available here: http://www.scottgames.com/ and the RPS WiT is at http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012...desolate-hope/.
It's a neat, very odd game, the main oddity being how many different games seem to be packed in there. I didn't much enjoy the boss battle-like things, but they're short.
Also, I just ran across a browser-based Star Wars roguelike courtesy of the Ascii Dreams website. If anyone wants to give it a bash, it's here: http://ondras.github.com/star-wars/. I died while still in the tutorial, but I was guilty of not playing it with the caution a roguelike deserves.

My favourite free game of the year is undoubtedly Blacklight: Retribution. I had not had as much fun with a multi-player FPS in years. It has 'pay to unlock' items, of course, but you can buy all those with purely in-game currency, and you can rent the items for a fraction of the cost to see if it's worth spending your points on. Quite a nice system.
