Gemini Rue. Neo Noir/Bladerunner/Philip K Dick style point and click adventure, only out this year too. On sale on Steam as it happens.

I haven't actually played the full game yet, just the demo, but I enjoyed that. Got some very good reviews, and the 'word on the street' from real people (i.e. not reviewers) is that it's pretty great.

Nox, by Westwood Studios. The action RPG where skill mattered a lot, and multiplayer played more like Quake than Diablo. As for its game mechanics, I like to says it's what Diablo2 could be if it was made by creative people.

(Once upon a time Blizzard were creative, but these days they just iterate over permutations of "damage over time, area of effect, instant damage")

I see why more people didn't pick up Fate of the World - it seems like an educational game where you learn about global warming. It's a pretty complex sim game about crisis management, though, where you're a global agency constantly having to put out fires as the world becomes a hell on earth. I put a lot of hours into figuring out the game, and then they went and released and expanded game that adds all sorts of variables to deal with (having to deal with refugees and displaced people is the big one I believe). I recommend it to all my sim-loving friends but none of them are checking it out.

Hell, yes. What I charming little game. I'd completely forgotten about it until you mentioned it.

    Paging GOG. Paging GOG.

Think I have a boxed copy of Nox lying somewhere actually. I remember it had pretty snazzy graphics.

BLARGH THIS WAS 1995 FOR GODS SAKE.

Probably the only game to come close is Battlezone in 1998 which ticks many of the same boxes Terra Nova did AND NO ONE PLAYED THAT EITHER, or the rather excellent sequal.
It was an amazing game far ahead of its time but I thought it sold quite well?

The game is fun even if you don't know what you're doing or if you go against the goals. Watching the simulation unfold is fascinating IMO.
I have to admit that I love implementing covert sterilization, artificial viruses, martial law, regime changes and all that stuff. Seriously, the game is fucking amazing.

Necrovision ,Fps,is essentially Painkiller 2 with Melee Combat as a strong alternative later in the game. With an amusingly cheesy Story/Setting.

Startopia ,charming space station managment game (Thats where my nick comes from). With lots of references to Scifi Movies like Silent Running,2001,Aliens,Logans Run.

btw: It lost some of its former Glory ,but Home of the Underdogs is still a good source for the kind of Info you seek.

Hi, long time lurke here. I joined to the sole purpose of honouring the memory of Home of The Underdogs and got beaten at it...drats!

Anyways, countless hours browsing those games in the good old days of HotU. Many of them would qualify for this thread. Among them Unreal World and Noctis.

7 cities of Gold, although if we are talking about PC games then definitely there was a good reason not to play it as it was nowhere close to the original concept.

Interstate '76 was an amazing game for me at the time. Oh, sorry, I guess I'm sounding like a fossil :) Ok, errm...Sacred 2 deserved much more attention than what it got IMHO.

I absolutely loved it. Your character's control always felt as natural as breathing, and no other game had been able to replicate this kind of gameplay. Someone should do a remake of Nox.

My choice for Best Games Nobody Played is Dominions 3. It's one of the best turn-based strategy games I've ever put my dirty hands on: the quantity of variables involved in a game of Dominions 3 is unheard-of (at least to my knowledge), but still able to deliver a gameplay that is quite easy to grasp for first-timers.

    Myth II: Soulblighter
I don't know how well it did, but I almost never hear it come up in RTS conversations. It's one of my favourite games of all time and the simple narration that's used to tell the story works super well.

For an iPod/iPhone/iPad game (though, now ported to the PC), Hector: Badge of Carnage seems to be one of the most hilarious point and click adventure games out there. Just, never heard anyone talking about it though. Brilliant game.

    Also, how's Freedom Fighters?

Oh damn. Dominions 3 is awesome, but I won't say it's easy to grasp for first timers... it's pretty punishing and lacks a decent tutorial. I always felt (and feel) quite lost at start and more often than not, during a game, I'm pretty sure I don't know what the [insert random profanities] I'm doing. And I'm an avid Dwarf Fortress player, mind you.

Well, you know what, another obscure bundle of awesome just got into my mind: anyone remembering Alien Legacy? It still has no comparison: a space colonization / strategy / adventure / Carrier Command game. I'll explain in brief: you were in command of a colony ship sent to Centauri, I think. Your mothership has plenty of resources, but not infinite, so you have to establish bases on habitable planets for resupplying, sending aircraft to explore the world(s) and pick up stuff to research and improve, plus investigate a disaster involving a lost colony ship and alien activities.

    KOEI's Uncharted Waters: New Horizons.

One of those games that, for unknown reasons, kept me hooked for hours.

Forgot to mention Throne of Darkness. It was a Diablo-alike set in medieval Japan with a party system, and seven specialized characters. I played quite a bit of that game when it came out.

    Incubation: Battle Isle Phase 4
Purchased from Gog as part of the Battle Isle package -- differing from the sweeping war-tactics style of the other games of the series, it's basically X-com turn-based squad action, refined to what is almost a puzzle game. It's loads of fun! Of course it's also ancient, so you may want to tweak it if adventurous with a Glide wrapper for better graphics; also, hilariously, the soundtrack won't play unless you have your CD-drive open when you boot it. But really, it kicks ass.

Good game, but I felt like the seven character thing hindered the experience rather than added to it. I always felt like I was neglecting half of the player characters (especially since you can't take them all on the field) and whilst I love Diablo-esque inventory juggling and stat-crunching, doing it for seven distinct characters proved out to be a bit too big of a chunk of micromanagement.

Would love to give it another go though, haven't played it in years and sold my copy at some point.
Give me steam and how you feel to make it real.
