And that makes paying for it stupid? What if the League of Legends developers announced LoL 2, which will also be F2P, and that closed beta invites are making the rounds? There are people who play LoL and nothing but, and they'd gladly pay stupid amounts of money to get into a LoL 2 closed beta, because they'll get their money's worth. The way I see it, F2P has nothing to do with it, and value has everything to do with it. It's about getting a head start, about learning the ins and outs before everyone else, and having fun playing a new game that they would otherwise have to wait for.

If there are people out there who value those aspects of getting into a beta for a F2P game, power to them. Hell, they'll probably get more value out of that purchase than I do with my frivolous Steam purchases of games that I don't get around to playing.

EDIT: I'm not trying to rile anybody up here, or be antagonistic. I'm just responding to "utter retardation" part of Rauten's post, because ever since I started playing SC2, I know what it's like to play a single game and nothing else, and I understand what these Dota 2 buyers are paying for. I know that if I had the chance to pay, say, $10 for a few-months long beta of SC2: Heart of the Swarm, I'd probably pay for it, and still buy the expansion, too. If I play it half as much as I do SC2 now, it'd be money well spent.
