    Castle Story, Voxel + RTS

    Just found out about this:

Looks very alpha but also very interesting!

If I'm not mistaken I heard the guy narrating say that other players will be able to get involved and attack the castle. That's a definite buy for me. All in all it looks really interesting and hopefully more information is released in the future.

I read about this over at diygamer. It's giving me more of a Dwarf Fortress vibe than Minecraft, which is no bad thing.

Even more impressive is the fact that it's built in the unity game engine. There have been some neat projects to come out of it recently.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this.

Looks interesting, if only because they seem to want to make a game with this. Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft are sandboxes first and second, games third.

Unity engine takes its name from being multiplatform. A Linux version is likely.

Definitely. There's also a 3D Lunar Lander sort-of-reboot which looks very very very interesting, I've been fighting the temptation to buy it over the holidays and I have a feeling I might be giving up soon.

How is it right now? Playable, or still to early on to casually enjoy?

Still feels like a tech demo. Waiting on the next patch still. But its mighty functional, and will probably be a wicked sick time sink when it begins to progress.

Looks like it'll be more fun than minecraft. Minecraft felt like work.

The blueprint feature looks really sweet.

Yeah, IT IS BROKEN ATM! It is taking the early access thing seriously. You can play and build up a castle but the AI has issues and not everything is working. If you want a stable game, wait for the full release. It could be a while.

Oh I'm sure they will. They blew through their target on kickstart, they wanted 80k and got 800k, so they wanted to make a bigger game, but that takes longer so this early access is just them showing something because of pressure from some backers to have more progress.

It has come on a long way, and they listen to the players, the UI has changed a few times to make it better for example.

Getting more than they asked for (and they didn't ask for a small amount as-it-was) may not be a good thing - they'd not the first people to spiral-off and never finish the bloody thing (HELLO DESKTOP DUNGEONS TEAM(*))

My first reaction was 'they're rather unpleasant looking Minifig ripoffs - something less unnerving would be nice" but I like that they have 'game' here and not just 'blocks'.

Unity is usually a put-off for me - you CAN make solid games in it but you can also make flaky crap which LOOKS like a solid game - as a coder, it's approach to coding leaves me shaking my head and saying "it's not 1990 for fucks sake - where's the reuse!?"

(*) I've griped enough on here about DD that someone posted about me in their forums - so HELLO!!!!!!
