    Steampunk

Has anyone here discovered the Steampunk genre or lifestyle? I found out about it when I purchased and played the TPS DAMNATION on the Steam site last year. I have since found lots of literature, art and what appear to be ex-Goths who like to dress up with leather, bustiers, goggles and bizarre gadgets. I discovered it has been around but I didn't know it had a name. Jules Verne is a good example because the main setting tends to be the Victorian era and features evil geniuses using all sorts of steam powered complicated weapons and machinery, super heroes and sometimes alternate existences and time travel. I believe the Dino De Laurentiis DUNE film could be Steampunk.

Has anyone not heard of Steampunk? Vacuum cleaners, on the other hand, now that's a weird new thing which I'm not sure will ever catch on...

I doubt they will. Frankly, they suck.

    Sir, are you a cat?

I recommend http://www.steampunkmagazine.com/ for anyone interested in the culture; the magazine has a heavy leftist-anarchist political slant, which means they undermine the capitalist machine by letting you download the mag for free. If the politics don't put you off, they publish short fiction, historical essays, steampunk fashion tips and (my favourite) do-it-yourself mad scientist projects. I'm about to start teaching myself electrolytic etching!

I've recently begun playing Arcanum again as an evil Half-ogre mage.
I really only ever completed the game before as a good dwarf tech sniper guy. I simply could never resist dwarf bro-ing it up with Magnus Shalefist and enjoying the splendid feeling of obliterating all enemies with the looking glass rifle.

Let's popularize analog computers and play games on it!!

Seriously, I heard that as late as during the Vietnam War the USAF was still using them on board of the bombers for targeting.

I'll just leave THIS here. NSFW, probably.
