    Spammers

Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot more of them on here suddenly? Leaving messages that are way more on-topic than I usually see on other sites. Things that are almost actual contributions till you realise the slight disconnect between what they've written and actual content (which is hardly unique to spambots, could be said of many presumably-human posters).
And now I see a thread where one spambot has posted about 'do you like fantasy movies', and then had a little conversation with another spambot! Madness. The weirder thing is they're not even the typical spam content of mortgages, drugs or porn. They seem to be for actual things - for example, an actual movie released by Sony about a well-known comic book character and featuring a has-been actor.

So how can we help stop this? Or at least track down which 2-bit marketing agency is making money off this crap?

Funnily I was actually planning on going to see Ghost Rider 2 for a cheerful sneak-booze-in-and-make-it-a-game visit to the cinema. However now I will be forever reminded of these spammers on RPS and will never part with any money for anything they have shilled.

What's even funnier is some of them are talking to each other.

They seem to be advertising watching the films online, presumably to get you to click on their link so that they can fill your computer full of viruses, trojans and midgets. Looks like they all come from the same source, or at least are using the same program, and none of them have English as a first language, surely anyone dumb enough to get taken in has already turned their machine into a zombie porn terminal?

If you see Spam, report it (small exclamation mark in a triangle on the left hand side, at the bottom of the post). Seems to get rid of it pretty quickly.

Yeah, I've noticed. Looks like someone's making more than just one account and spammed virus sites in here. Just when I thought the comments sections are full of 'em

Ahh that makes so much more sense.

Annoyingly the refractory period for reporting is 60 seconds. When there are a lot of spammy posts (logged on one morning this week to find six or seven 'watch x online now' threads) it can take a while to report them all.

That's why I just say "Topic is made up of spammers" or something. Saves me time, saves them time.

Sometimes I have to fight the urge to click the signature links, so I'm able to discern whether or not they are actually spambots, but in doing-so I'd be helping them achieve their purpose.

I'm just going to operate under the assumption I'm the only real person here and the forum is some kind of constructed reality, designed to mess with me.
I write about them video games at these locations

    And on Twitter

That's just what a spambot would say...
