I currently have the PE edition installed on two machines. These screens are from my laptop running a i7-740QM, 8Gigs RAM, and a Nvidia 560M card. The other is my gaming desktop with a i7-3960x EE, 12Gigs RAM, and a GTX 590. I haven't seen any difference when running VBS2 side by side on both systems. Again, optimization...
My settings - You'll notice a additional feature at the bottom right, a object draw distance, something ArmA simply doesn't have. With those settings in the screen-shot, I'm averaging around 45-60+ FPS.
Then the RTE or Real Time Editor 3D which allows complete manipulation of the map and any object on it or placeable. It also enables you to alter the objects position in any form.
You can also place objects in real time.
Then there is the real-world terrain (Google the Battle of Wanat).

I really liked the artwork on Darkness II. The game could have been more fun but has some very frustrating parts and I gave up.
@DetCord: looks really nice, like a creepy, pimped up and more practical version of Arma. Thanks for the info!
Future Pinball simulator running replicas of Space Cadet, Evel Knievel, and Kiss tables. Awesome little communities built hundreds of tables.

Damn, looks like Darkness 2 is worth a shot for the artwork alone. And I'm not just talking about the cleavage.
Turn up the 'ashamed' slider a little bit.
