This kind of thread again?
This kind of thread again?
People can play what they want, it doen´t bother me even I myself fail to see what´s so fantastic about this series. What annoys me about them are the review scores. Let the game sell 10 million or whatever, fine, but Mass Effect 2 shouldn´t be anywhere near the almost perfect scores it has on gamerankings.com. Something is very wrong there.
Maybe the reviewers all liked it?
Guys, is it okay if I started a mass effect 3 coop thread, because it's awesome.
I'm just going to title the thread "Is mass effect 3 coop RPG better than wizardry 8,dragon age, Jade empire, Fallout"
The first post will just say yes 400 times
I'm failing to writing a blog, specifically about playing games the wrong way

*blush* I'm flattered by the attention boys, but please let's not make the thread about liddle old me
Iconoclasm, much?
Smacks of so many people I knew in school who'd get really worked up over whatever band, game or movie was super popular at the time simply because they hated how much everybody else liked it and wanted something to rage about. Reasons for hating it then followed, usually hanging on this same 'I just don't like x why doesn't everyone accept that' logic, or similarly combative stances.
Largely an attention grab, I think. I don't see why else people would feel the need to make such a big public statement about tearing down something popular.
We need a new rule: People who get angry about games other people like don't deserve games that they like.
That said, popularity is often inversely proportional to subjective quality. That's not because the masses' taste is stupid, but because "the masses" have a variety of disparate tastes, and appealing to all of them inevitably entails making compromises. I have to say it would be nice if people made games that fewer people liked, but that the people who did like it liked more, but that's kind of impossible with the current production costs of AAA games.
The corollary to that is that being angry that a popular game isn't more suited to one's individual tastes demonstrates being kinda out of touch with reality.
On the other hand, I like Mass Effect because I have a variety of disparate tastes and Mass Effect appeals to several of them, so, y'know...

"Moronic cynicism is a kind of naïveté. It's naïveté turned inside-out. Naïveté wearing a sneer." -Momus
Heretical even.
Point still stands: some of the posts here come off as "If it isn't indie it doesn't deserve a glowing review, all mainstream games are trash, my tastes are far superior to yours." Fortunately most people play the rational card of "Well, I don't like it, so I don't play it." Personally I like the series. It's not flawless and it's not Planescape: Torment in space, but I really don't care. I have fun playing the game, the storyline doesn't require a lot of investment to get something out of it, and that's all I really care about.
If I'm having fun with a game, then I'm happy.
EDIT: It's the same as if I went and said The Witcher sucks and I can't believe everyone loves it and it should be destroyed and shouldn't score so highly. I personally can't get into the game but lots of people love it, which is cool by me. I don't find it to be the brooding mature title I was led to believe it is, but hey, that's fine.
Now anything by Tale of Tales is an entirely different matter...

But The Witcher does suck.
It sucks you into it once it clicks for you :D
I do get a sneaking feeling that if I ever played one of these games I would end up agreeing with the OP on every particular, and still kind of having fun in general.
Edit: Did I do it wrong? I forgot to explain what Subjectivity means as though to a tiny child, and follow it up with a story about how I'm like, super tolerant.

Wot I Think: The Game : an ongoing collaborative game-design experiment / comedic disaster here on the RPS Forums!
Kata vs. Kata : a game of simultaneous round-based predictive martial arts (like frozen synapse, but with punches)
My Games on Kongregate : "computainments" for your world wide web experience
Hard to tell if you're serious about starting another thread because of the second part... But anyway, I was mainly bitching about it because at other forums I've frequented one thread would be enough for any game, and extras would be closed or merged if they were actually useful. But this is RPS and the mods here can mod however they choose.
Now I'm kind of interested to see how many ME threads we'll have on the first page by the time the game actually comes out. 1 about MP, 1 about DLC, 1 about Origin, 1 about it being amazing compared to the first 2, 1 about it being disappointing compared to the first 2?
weekendwarrio.rs - We've got more games than time...
Pardon my language, but have you ever considered the possibility that you should just fucking deal with it?
It's ok to not like Mass Effect, plenty of people here do just that. But hating it? Getting angry about it? That takes effort. At the risk of sounding like one of the "how dare you complain about DRM, don't you know there are kids in Africa with AIDS-ridden flies in their eyes being killed by malarial civil war soldiers" crowd, there are better things to be angry about.
Take a step back, calm down, try your best to just ignore Mass Effect (I know it's hard with the unrelenting barrage of adverts at the moment), and in a few weeks' time you'll be able to relax properly. In the meantime, treat it with quiet disdain, and if someone runs up to you in the street yelling "DO YOU LIKE MASS EFFECT?" you can simply reply "No" and walk away. Elsewhere, just don't watch the adverts, read the previews, or do anything that might spawn a multiple-page thread on a forum about the very object of your hatred.
Oh, wait.
the effort taken to hate somethingthe considerable amount of energy it must have takenDoes anyone here *really* think the OP had to take a break halfway through this Backbreaking Undertaking to chug a half gallon of sweet iced tea and rest his aching mind? I just...I must confess to having wavering doubts about the work ethic you claim is so prominently displayed in this exasperation.Getting angry about it? That takes effort.

It happens to me when I feel poor execution has ruined great potential - I'm a coin-toss away from loving this shit, but dammit I just can't!
Add on "Everyone else loves it without qualms/it's now popular because of stupid bits that aren't its *true* nature", I can understand the anger rising.
Course, what this means is that what the OP really wants to say is "I love Mass Effect!"
