Well, I guess it doesn't have to be your favorite exactly. It could be anytime music in a game has enhanced an experience. I'm also curious to see who cares about music in video games.
I would say that my favorite music is Deus Ex's soundtrack, but I've been replaying Doom 3 and I've been music that I've never really noticed before that really seems to make things much more tense.
Machinarium. It is one of few game soundtracks that stands on its own rights.

I just played the Machinarium demo. Yeah it's great... not sure how I let this game slip by me. Now I need to buy it!
The Divinity games tend to have great atmospheric soundtracks.

I also really like Trent Reznor's work with the Quake soundtrack. Kinda wish things worked out with Trent and Id for Doom 3... Speaking of that, has anyone checked out that Trent Reznor sounds mod?
Cannon Fodder introduced me to the idea that game music could be more than just a short MOD sequence. And I only found out recently (via the lamented Simon) that the recruitment hill music had lyrics too.
Grim Fandango had an excellent soundtrack which fit the tone and style of the game to a T.
Nation 12's soundtracks for speedball 2 and gods.
Having recently gone back to the witcher, I'm surprised how atmospheric the music was on that.
Frozen synapse soundtrack has its moments.
And I have disinct memories of emerging overground and sprinting for cover to a thunderous techno burst in half life. That seemed cool as fuckery.
I won't state the obvious Elder Scrolls ones but one of my favourite pieces of music from any game has to be:
Both of the Homeworlds were absolutely amazing in their use of music. The songs themselves are wonderful, but what really sets them apart is how well they accentuate the narrative.
This song starts right as you warp in to find your homeworld consumed in flames. Your officers struggle to maintain their composure as they explain to you that all that remains of your people are those on the mothership and a few cryotrays in orbit under attack.
The Keeper is aware. The Keeper is indestructible. The Keeper will destroy you.
This song started my love affair with the sarangi.

I've always been a sucker for Jeremy Soule. The first time I stepped out of the tavern in Icewind Dale the soundtrack nearly knocked me out of my chair. His TES theme, as present in Morrowind and Oblivion, is also outstanding, to say nothing of his brilliant work on Guild Wars.
I also have to say, I really like the music in the older (real) Tom Clancy games, the menu theme in Raven Shield is just outstanding.
Buying games you aren't going to play is a waste of money (no matter how cheap they are). Forcing yourself to play games you wish you hadn't bought is a waste of time. Both are best avoided.

Oh I just realized this was in the PC forum. Well whatever everyone likes variety.
I love talking about any kind of music and my memories of games, especially old ones, are usually tied in with the music that played the whole time.
I always really liked Fire Emblem's music (and the game is one of my personal GOATs). It always set the mood very well and I always found it to be pretty listenable anyway:
AoE II ofc. So many hours playing this game, so many empires falling (usually mine), and the soundtrack was excellent:
I guess I'm being really North American here but NHL 99 had the bossest fucking music ever. The announcer would shout these catch phrases in a really violent manner (memorable lines for an open-ice hit: "WELCOME TO THE ROAD KILL CAFE" "NORTH-BOUND ON A SOUTH-BOUND FREEWAY, LOOKOUT" "OOOOOHHHH HE HAMMERED 'EM") and then you'd finish your game and get back to the menu and hear stuff like this:
Now, the only time I remember hearing this music was during the credits and when I was connecting to certain Half-Life mod servers (especially Zombie Panic, which beats the shit out of ZP:S) but it's awesome either way. Also, the name is amazing:

Although I havn't actually ever played the game, this bit of music is one of the most inspiring I have heard for a soundtrack.

I'm sure its not for everyone but the Cuban/Spanish pop of the Tropico soundtrack really is pretty special. It certainly makes a change from all the orchestral stuff you get in other games.

Solar Field's Mirror's Edge soundtrack is amazing, and is probably no small factor in making the Mirror's Edge world feel as it does.
