Thread: "Mature" Language in games... does it enhance the experience *EXPLICIT*

You are entirely correct, sir. I really don't know what I meant by that first bit. I mean, I write pontless swears in dialogue all the time. When it makes sense in context and/or it's part of the natural patterns of speech for a character it works. In fact, intentionally leaving out casual swears can make things worse. Like in a lot of Hardboiled novels from the early 20th century - you just knew the characters should be dropping F-bombs all over the place, but the publisher was muzzling them, and it felt wrong.

And to think the swearing is the least notable aspect of this scene.

Was replaying some ME2 today and was surprised to find a couple F bombs hidden away in the dialog. It was completely appropriate, contextual, and really only this thread made me even aware of them. Like others have pointed out, good writing is good writing. Squeezing it in at every opportunity simply isn't. At that point the dialog is the joke regardless of what's being said, and any joke grows old, quick.
All times I have enjoyed greatly, have suffered greatly, both with those that loved me, and alone.
