Fallout Tactics and Arcanum are best enjoyed when they're set to be fully turn-based all the time.
Can't believe I'm agreeing with Wizardry (although the chance of a new turn-based combat mode is nonexistingly minimal)
Give me steam and how you feel to make it real.
Totally agree (with that first line). I'm just not sure a game which was at the forefront of real-time combat under the guise of turn-based should go that route. It might have a completely different feel. Surely some of the maps were even specifically built with that kind of combat in mind.
I thought Fallout Tactics was rubbish in turn based and good in real time. All it needed was a pause function.
Irrelevant on further examination of the rest of the thread.
Yeah. It is.
I think the people developing the remake own Beamdog or something.
It's odd, though. It'll probably sell 10 times as much if they open it up to other online distributors. I guess everyone wants to push their own online download platforms these days, though.
Anyhow, I actually don't know if we need Baldur's GAte remakes. Most 2D games from the late 1990s still look fine. It's only the early 3D games that look like shit and need remakes.
What's a beamdog? I could google it up but the context suggests it's a digital store. I already use Steam, Impulse and Desura, and have of course origin installed too. I don't want more stores. Origin is so horrible I ordered ME3 from a real store and have been waiting it to arrive in mail for some time now :S
I haven't used them but this is Beamdog's FAQ:
Why does Beamdog have a Client?
The Beamdog Client allows us to give a better, consistent user experience. We did months of research on every possible approach from streaming in a browser to simple direct downloads. In the end we wanted to ensure a great experience and the Beamdog Client was the only implementation that could deliver.
Is Beamdog a subscription service?
No, Beamdog is not a subscription service. You pay for your games once, and then they belong to you. We will never take your games away from you once you've purchased them from us.
What do you do with my Credit Card data?
We work with a payment gateway service so we can ensure the security of your credit card data. We never store your credit information on our servers and we take your privacy very seriously. For more information, look at our privacy policy.
How many computers can I install my games on?
We do not limit the number of computers you can install your games on, we do however limit concurrent usage of those games. When you buy a game from us we grant a license to run only one copy at a given time. If you log into another Beamdog Client, we log you out of the previous session.
What happens to my games if you shut down?
We are committed to thinking of our customers first, so if for some unforseen reason we are forced (yes, I say forced as we'll fight tooth and nail to keep the service going) to shut our service down we will remove all date based expiry in the system.

Yay, another digital distribution service for me to forget my password to!

Ugh, the prospect of another client sullies what should otherwise be amazing news.
The dnd anthology pack is on sale atm (and has been numerous times before) so I'll probably just pick up another one of these clientless versions rather than head back to my parents attic to see if my disc versions still exist.
Tons of console 'exclusives' make it to other platforms eventually. That word is utterly devalued in gaming circles. I'd be shocked if they didn't make their way to other services after a period of exclusivity.
Also they're not going to do well on iOS if they're not on the App Store.
