[AAR] Tactical Tuesday 06/03/2012 - Come Snow, Sleet or Storm

Today 22 fine comrades braved a gamut of weather conditions to achieve glory in the following missions:
    • Ivory Hunt
    • Grand Theft Aero
    • Roundabout
    • Cholo

Ivory Hunt was a surprise success - despite the mission being set to expert difficulty, a hastily assembled ambush managed to quickly dispatch the opposing force in pouring rain.

Heavy fog in Grand Theft Aero necessitated a slow-but-steady approach, which worked in our favour. Both Hueys were secured and at least one barracks destroyed.

Roundabout was a long meat grinder which somehow resulted in a pyrrhic victory - a series of fortifications were cleared but only three men made it to the final village, where two fell and the last was without legs.

Cholo was a night assault but rain prevented the attackers from seeing anything. An excessive number of police officers (2:1 ratio was not maintained :|) managed to execute all the gang members without a single loss. What a shame.

Remember, Folk Sundays are also nights for excellent organised missions with a slightly different crowd.

I should have some decent footage up in the near future. Here's a teaser.

    Excellent session.
I got totally lost at the start of Ivory Hunt, missed the ambush, wound up behind the convoy, but got shot before i could do any damage!
Grand Theft Aero was really good again, the fog was very atmospheric.I was ftl and after some confusion as to who was in charge we completed the objectives with no losses to our fire team, if i remember correctly.
Roundabout. After last weeks clusterf#ck of an attempt at this mission,we very almost aced this one!
Our squad lead quazi bit a bullet attacking the checkpoint so i took over.Excellent commanding by joe(i think)got us very near to the end point.A stubborn sniper and an absoloute maniac Russian rpg guy took a heavy toll.I was on my way to kill him when i think the sniper got me.(15 kills, not bad work!)
Love this mission, very good,a classic.Want to play it again soon!
    Missed cholo as work called.
Any recommendations on fraps or better alternatives?Thinking of videoing our games as i have a beasty p.c now!

Fraps is probably the best, but it costs money. I think harakka uses MSI Afterburner, seems like a good alternative.

Yeah, I use fraps. I might start recording missions when I'm at the events. I've got a dream of cutting together many peoples viewpoints of the missions to get a decent feel for what's going on, but there are issues with sending big videos across the net, unless a few fraps/afterburner owners are willing to get handbrake and convert it to a tiny file for editing?

That is a bit too harsh. Being called russian. I got lost after we went down to lake , and once I realized where I should be , I went to your location. But I got arrow in the knee and fell off the cliff.

As promised, heres's the full version of Roundabout.

And yes, I use Afterburner, mostly because it's free and it works.

Dw, I record pretty much all the missions we play anyway so just say the word any time you want my videos :) though most of them are boring.

As an added bonus, here's a vid of our post-TacTues, post-apocalyptic late night Chernarus roadtrip.

[AAR] Folk [Sun] 11 March 2012

As ever, cross-posting from the official thread (please cross-post!):

    Missions:
    • Cordonbleufor
    • Fodder
    • Swept LE (adversarial)
    • The take down (alt)
    • Cholo
    • Lichterfelde (which was actually a coop)

I think now, looking back, we did not fight the enemy; we fought ourselves. The enemy was in us. The session is over for me now, but it will always be there, for the rest of my days. As I'm sure Elias will be, fighting with -- wait, what? Actually, the part about fighting ourselves is absolutely correct. We shot each other in the face for most of the session, and it felt great. Even if my abiding memory of the night is of walking out of a door, insta-dying and hearing "Fuck you, Americans!" over VON, and then finding out my killer was that civilian I had thoughtfully left to go about his business.

    :argh: Wolfenswan!

Thank you to all the comrades who made it along tonight: our playercount was at or above 20 for most of the session. I hope you enjoyed the focus on adversarials tonight - we'll revert to a slightly more balanced set of missions next week, but I'd be very keen to hear your thoughts on making adversarials a larger part of the Folk experience.

I took part in the first four missions and I really enjoyed them.

In Cordonbleufor I was surprised to see myself taking some initiative and moving ahead of where we were held up, only to flank 2-3 enemies and kill them with my trusty Scorpion pew-pew.

Fodder was freaky, being stuck in a tank with tunnelvision and Unaco screaming directions. Overall it went well thanks to Unaco's directions and Harakka's shooting. I had no idea what was going on most of the time.

Swept was pretty short for me. I was waiting to kill someone with my RPG only to realise the enemy had flanked us. They took us completely by surprise and I died pretty quickly...

In the Take down, we protected Col. Aziz by adequately simulating the AI, as we were dressed in civy clothes. I was walking around the mosque and saw 2-3 Bluefor. I made my way towards them, it was pretty nerve-wracking wondering if they would shoot me or not. I passed by some guy taking cover at a corner of a building, walked on for some meters and then turned around and shot him in the back. To my delight, his friend came out to see what happened, so I shot him in the back as well. I then proceeded to walk around the building and I almost jumped for joy when I saw their medic healing them. I shot him in the back as well. I hope one of those guys was Iceraiser. I continued towards the mosque, where I found a wounded Bluefor and having tasted the honey of shooting someone in the back, I got too tempted and careless. I executed him but there must have been another one around, as I quickly died after that.

Overall I really enjoyed the focus on adversarials last night. I think it should be a more regular thing. Coop is nice but there is nothing like shooting people in the back!

[AAR] Tactical Tuesday 12/03/2012 - Less LSD, more death.

With up to 23 fine amateurs in arms we bested:
    • Belenus
    • UNwelcome Guests (2x)
    • Late Night Operations
    • Nutracker v3
Belenus went as suspected - we all got murderd.

UNwelcome Guest was a flawless victory for BLUFOR the first time around, then we tried it again with a gent agreement to give OPFOR a 90 second advantage. That time, BLUFOR got slaughtered.

Late Night Operations saw us whiping the southern part of Takistan clean of enemy forces with a frightening display of competence and skill on all levels. Hardly any losses and a successful operation.

Nutcracker ended in a win for OPFOR despite the heroic charges by Independent in all kinds of vehicles.

All together a fun session and a big welcome to all new people that joined us that night!

Opfor should all have mounted up in battle tractors in Nutcracker, it would have made for a glorious clash of metal.

    Cross-posting from the official thread:

    Missions:
    • Fall of Aziz
    • Of Needles and Haystacks
    • Crateresistance
    • Crateresistance

Thanks to all the comrades who came along (we were again around the 20 mark), and apologies for the issues with script bugs - we've been lucky for a long time, and perhaps tonight karma was redressing the balance. Still, we died a lot, and that's the main thing.

    Wait--

    :v:

[AAR] Tactical Tuesday 21/03/2012: Death on Tracks

Tonight a pleasantly large number of people showed up to shoot things together. They were rewarded with:
    • Tankicious (draw)
    • Force Ten
    • Of Needles and Haystacks
Thank you to the players for making things enjoyable, and mission makers (Head, Wolfenswan) for granting us new situations to die in. Please post your experiences and things here.
