Thread: Dark Souls for PC

If it works the same as the console (and it does as far as I can tell), you can't pick who you team up with as such. Unless your buddy leaves their summon sign somewhere obscure and you get lucky with the co-op RNG. It's a really neat system when it works though, just difficult/impossible to play directly with friends.

Edit: and as pointed out, it's a fundamental part of the atmosphere of the game, which is intensely lonely with short bursts of camaraderie.

With the recent patches to the servers it's far more likely that you can team up with someone you know if you want to.

And you're going to resummon each other every time you change areas?

It's worth mentioning that the game only matches players by level, and does not account for their gear. Because it is possible to do low-level playthroughs, and there are already expert level players from the console versions, you should not be at all surprised to soon be killed by invaders with insane loadouts in the starting areas. You can also sometimes end up with truly ridiculous sums of souls from dueling or self defense, and I suggest you level up a stat point or two and suicide to throw away the rest rather than spending them all and trashing the progression curve (incidentally, the last console patch also doubled XP gain).

    YAY!!! Everyone is happy then!

Also, assuming that is for real and doesn't cause any problems: FROM should REALLY consider hiring a dedicated PC coder. Because this is HILARIOUS

Well it doesn't exactly fix the 30fps cap, nor how unstable the framerate is despite the low cap.

Only the jackasses who were building straw men left and right.

What we said was, and I am paraphrasing: "It sucks, we wish they could do better, but it isn't a dealbreaker because it won't look any worse than the console version".

What worries me is, if someone managed to fix the resolution so quickly... how easy will it be for cheaters to do what they want and run amok?

    The UI doesn't scale well.
But there's still work to be done.

So the game will have modding support?

    That could save it.

No...just every now and again make a concerted effort to try and do some of the tougher bits with some RPS'ers. I'm sorry if this offends you.

Yeah, so far this definitely looks promising, but I am going to hold off until people are more certain of any problems this might cause.

Odds are they just changed a line or two in an ini (or the equivalent lines in the binary with a hex editor). That is the same principle by which you can get freaky huge resolutions in older games, and sometimes it causes big problems.

Re: framerates. I've read conflicting reports. Some people saying it's good, some saying there's still some issues but it's better, and some same saying that it's as bad as ever. So I don't know what to think.

Mind you, I've already pre-ordered it and it's sitting on my HDD waiting to be decrypted, so I guess I don't really mind that much! :)

It uses an interceptor to modify D3D calls, supposedly.

    It might cause performance issues.
