Nope, saves work just fine without GFWL.

[Edit] DSfix 4 released, fixes the depth of field.

so i caved in and bought a gamepad. never owned console in my life, so ill have to learn how to use the controller. i guess this is the best game to start learning on, hardcore style:). overall game indeed seems a lot more enjoyable now, than wrestling with shitty kb+m support. slowly getting the hang of controller, although in tense situations i tend to mix up the buttons sometimes:)

Here is a tip that I learned when I got my PSX after over a decade of NES and PC gaming (that has been updated for modern controllers)

Use your left thumb for the analog stick and your left index finger for LB/L1 (check the 360 or PS3 controller to know what that is). You do NOT need your middle finger on LT/L2 outside of very special games, so either use that to stabilize the controller or whatever you want. Right thumb on the 4 buttons on the right, right index finger on RB. Shift your thumb from those buttons to the right analog stick and back as needed.

And if you didn't get a gamepad based on the 360 or PS3: Go get a refund and get a gamepad based off of those (or better yet, just a 360 controller). Every game is going to be made with those in mind and those are fully capable of supporting most emulated titles that you are clearly playing super legally because you ripped the ROM off your SNES cartridge. Yup.
    Steam: Gundato
    PSN: Gundato
If you want me on either service, I suggest PMing me here first to let me know who you are.

yea i did buy ps3 based gamepad, which works just fine with Dark Souls cause i also use xbox360 controller emulator. regarding actual holding of controller, thats pretty much how i do it, since ive found it to be pretty intuitive from the get go.

Either AFK people are invincible, or I just invaded a hacker. Standing alone, not taking any damage from the Gravelord sword. Bleed, toxin and regular damage did nothing.
    Fatal falls did.

Kicked him all the way from the prison on the second floor of the Parish, down where the Channeler was, outside, up the stairs and over the cliff.
I was rewarded 550k souls for my efforts. I take it this isn't a normal amount?

EDIT: Second invasion, another hacker I believe. He didn't even show damage when I hit him.

I bit the bullet, walked the plank, went over the top, tripped the light fantastic... and picked it up this afternoon. What internal resolution are people using for the Durante fix mod? I'm finding it a touch difficult to judge whether I'm getting a decent performance/graphics balance... not sure when it should slowing down perhaps, and don't want to do too much running around when testing, in case I get into a fight and die. I was happy enough with the default, but then seeing some other pictures and turning it up myself, it looked even nicer... but I think it is getting a little jerky at times. Any one turned it up and noticing lots of slowdown? Or everyone sticking with default?

I am using the native res of my monitor "1080p". I figure out that "lets do the less scaling as possible" could be a good idea. And my system can handle it well enough.

I've only seen 3 or 4 so far (only just landed in Landor or whatever it's called). They've all been people taking a header of a ledge. Usually with a run up. I'm making a point to be very careful around ledges, as you can imagine.

I'm seeing them everywhere. Rather funny when you see someone with much better gear getting taken out by skeletons/hollows.

Current armour set is Baldur's, with Gravelord Sword and Dragon Crest shield, Ring of Favor and Protection and Blue Tearstone Ring. Finding Titanite (of better quality than Shard) seems to be an issue for me, though. As well as Humanity.

I got this this evening too and have sunk in 3 hours. Spent 1 hour wrestling with Games for Windows Live as usual to make it work though. For some reason it had decided that I was not the person I claimed to be and had to jump through several hoops in order to verify etc. That did not work straight away either and I had to connect my Xbox live account with a fresh Windows live account before it finally accepted my login details.

Anyhow, fun game so far. Beat 2 bosses, the first one and the Taurus.

Are all the weapons and armors acquired from enemies (trash spawns)?

I am also playing with the fix, at native 1080p res. It lags when dust and certain particles flash up, but that is something I believe is an inherent bug with the game - if one is to believe comments and forum posts.

Most of them, bosses and mini-bosses have a chance to drop some too, but it's mostly RNG, I was lucky enough to get the Black Knight's sword of him in the area before Taurus. Hits like a train, but I had to sink a lot of points into strength and dex to be able to wield it.

Keep your eyes open for npc merchants though, as they might sell you one or two bits and pieces (the minorest of minor spoiler: there's one in undead burg sells a few bits and bobs).

No, there's tons of weapons and stuff in chests. Just be careful when opening one...

I have yet to kill Taurus, and I am like level 22 or something. I have only tried to kill him 3 times, and both times managed to almost kill him. I have watched a few videos, and theres different ways to kill him.... I even have that stuff that buff your weapon with electricity. For good players its a trivial boss, because it only take 3 hits to kill him jumping from the top, but this could be my last boss of the game if don't manage to kill him. I will probably be able to kill him if I continue tryiing and have a string of good luck, since is a weak boss.

Heh heh... yeah it's not really a tip for the entire Undead section, but later in the game it's recommended to hit every chest before opening it.
