Do any Open World Surival games exist (bar Minecraft)?

So yeah ^ Whether it be FPS,RTS,Roguelike I honestly don't mind I would be interested in seeing what is out there. Id love there be for a game where you have a pretty big world out there with a emphasis on you surviving with what you have and through scavenging the world. I know games like PZ are aiming for this (though frankly that game doesn't feel like what im describing).

Does any such game exist? Would I be better of slamming my head against a wall trying to attempt make such a game?

Fallout 3 with Wanderer's Edition definitely fits this bill, as does New Vegas with Project Nevada to a lesser degree (the latter is arguably too plot driven to fit the category).
Buying games you aren't going to play is a waste of money (no matter how cheap they are). Forcing yourself to play games you wish you hadn't bought is a waste of time. Both are best avoided.

See I just don't like Bethesda games that much, they can't hold my attention for very long =/

    @TimA check that out now.

    Also, Robinsons Requiem.

    They're on GOG.

They also have not aged well at all.

Right, you have to have a special 'Dated visuals and UI? So what!' gland to enjoy games such as these, but I think they're still interesting enough to try out if you're particularly partial to the genre.

UnReal World as well, but it's not got the most...accessible...control scheme.

Kata vs. Kata : a game of simultaneous round-based predictive martial arts (like frozen synapse, but with punches)

I think the UnReal World does what you describe pretty accurately?

EDIT: Curse you, Berzee. A minute!

Actually no,it does not exist. It seems like a great idea for someone to make it,but i don't know what are they waiting for.

I would like to have something like Grand Theft Auto, but post apocalyptic settings. Of course with more realistic gameplay, ammo scattering, looking for food supplies and stuff. And i don't need zombies or any other monsters in there, just put me against other survivors and lets roll it! ROOOLL EEET!

In light of my horrible defeat at the slopes of Mount Victory, I can offer two more suggestions. They're not exactly open world sanboxes, but come pretty close. There's Notrium, which does have a story, but if my memory serves me correctly, you can just forget it and try to survive. Second is Dwarf Fortress which is pretty insane. However, if you think UrW's control scheme is bad, then don't bother.

fallout 3 wanderer's edition sorta fits, well the first several hours of gameplay did at least.
HUGE pain to get setup properly. I did get it going well along with a bunch of other mods.

unreal world is a well developed wilderness survival roguelike. Truly open ended.

Forget deus/robinson's requiem, just saving you time they're shit

Stranded II is kind of cool if you play it with "massive mod"

This game only tangentially fits your requirements but if you have an iphone/ipad you've GOT to get it.. One of the greatest games ever made, and hardly anyone has ever heard of it.
"King of Dragon Pass". Guess I'd call it tribal survival, with a massive dose of mysticism.

I really like rogue survivor if you don't mind zombie + roguelike, it definitely has the desperate survival scrounge thing going on. Urban only.
You could call it open ended, except you're probably going to die really really fast.

    Always worth a read.

Played Stalker but it's not exactly what I mean, while the game itself is awesome and it's open endish it's still static progression where the game has an end goal that must be reached.

    Rockstar should make GTA:Apocalypse.

I'm working on a project right now that I'm sure many of you would find interesting. I've got a working ecosystem representative of the African savannah with dozens of species of plants and animals that procreate, hunt, sleep, and interact with each other to keep the whole thing sustainable. Eventually I'd like to turn it into a survival game but right now it's just an ecosystem.
