Mount & Blade: Warband + Crpg Mod

Recently started playing M&B multiplayer a lot again and looked into the CRPG mod. I like what I found.

    "What is cRPG?

cRPG is a persistent character FREE multiplayer mod (modification) for Mount&Blade: Warband computer game. The game encompasses medieval type melee and ranged combat from roughly the Viking to Renaissance era (900-1500 AD). Players earn experience and gold to upgrade skills and buy and maintain equipment such as: weapons, armor and horses. Rewards are purely team based.
Currently cRPG has 4 different game modes: duel, battle, siege and DTV (Defend the Virgin).

cRPG is developed by Donkey Crew and headed by Chadz"

    Anybody else playing it?

Yea it is a very good mod, I play that and Nord Invasion http://nordinvasion.com/

Nord invasion is a coop mod where you face waves of incresingly hard enemies. You have a persistant char like in cprg, and it's nice to have some releif from playing against a lot of angry people on cprg.

I need to try that one too because cRPG is pretty harsh for new players. I played a lot of native MP and loved being an archer but in cRPG I can plug people full of arrows and nothing happens. Guess I need to keep leveling and buying better gear.

Hi, just a quick question for you old hands at Mount and Blade. I've recently bought the M&B 3 pack on Steam when it was in a sale and I'm thinking it's about time to give it a go. Is it worth playing the first M&B or should I just jump straight in with Warband?

Warband has more pretty but I like the vanilla map a lot more. Somehow warband seems empty always. I'm having hard time finding bandits of reasonable level. But still, you might be better off with warband. With fire and sword is a bit rubbish if you ask me. It has some pros but it feels even older than vanilla MB.

Thanks, I'll give the first one a try then and if I find myself getting along well with that I'll jump up to Warband for a look.

I say don't bother at all with Mount and Blade. Warband has pretty much everything M&B has, only with added stuff and better graphics. I'm sure there are fans out there who will say otherwise (just like there are fans who insist L4D1 is somehow better than L4D2), but I've played both and think Warband is all you need.

I find the cRPG mod with a pure crossbow specialist to be the best sniping experience I've ever had.
Also attempted to make one of those fast ninja-types, but a combination of slight lag and slight skill made it very hard. =P
Support for my all-pepperjack-cheese food bank charity drive has been lukewarm at best.

Jump. Warband is generally accepted as the best of the series and makes the previous version obselete. It opens up essential options like letting the player create his/her own kingdom. I've never gotten that far though because you need to gain reputation and lure vassals by having good relationships or leveling the hell out of your companion characters, which means having adventures throughout the land for in-game years. Then the real battle for Calradia begins as you claw your way to the top through battle and diplomacy.

If we were to see the unification of Calradia under our rule as the end game (if there is such a thing in these freeform RPGs), then from start to finish Warband could take months of your life.

OK, well straight into Warband it is then. That seemed to be the impression I got from other forums I'd looked at too.

    Thanks!

It's worth using a mod designed to enhance the vanilla game too. Floris Mod pack is good, although for a person new to the series it can be a bit over complicated to get started with. I use Diplomacy and Conquest as it still takes a lot of investment, but you start to see some profit in your actions a bit sooner.

That mod name is a cruel, cruel lie. I was hoping someone had actually put some RPG structure into the M&B SP campaign, and was practically prepared to reinstall based on that premise alone.

it's brutal at first. i'm not the world's greatest vidya game player, but i'm pretty decent, and it still took me about 70 or so hours before i was any good at dueling (not to mention leveling up and getting gear. although it really is mostly about player skill, after a retirement i was still able to rack up quite a few kills with my practice longsword).

i think it's worth it, though. the community is pretty cool and there's an almost endless amount of entertainment value. i would recommend not starting as an archer though. they're pretty weak now (recently nerfed) and are more gear/level dependent than other classes. you can have one skip the fun character now, though (iirc), so if you want to zoom straight to lvl 30 with an archer, that's a good option. generally, though, starting with a melee char helps you get into things easier.

    also, siege.

I would recommend Prophesy of Pendor if you are after that. I lost over 100 hours to that mod.

Made me think of the RPG mod in Tribes 1... that was good times. I forget the game, but it was a some actual RPG. (Not tribes with RPG stat mechanics).

Yeah! This guy knows. I applaud his concise summary of what this game seems like. Really ties up the conversation and puts a bow on it.

Indeed, a year after the last post, only masterful input such as his is worthy of resurrecting the thread.
