    Trying to get back into EyE:Divine Cyberwhatsit's.

    Good things: Gunplay, decent visuals, interesting level designs and world, hilarious dialogue, pretty great music, load out system that's highly customizable and gives you that xcom feeling. Multiple ways to finish missions.

    Bad things: Make a sound and the enemy are all over you, monster boxes everywhere, enemies that have what I call bullshit guns (the turrets that just shoot you into the corners and keep you there with a hail of bullets).

    The AI of the enemies and the monster boxiness of it all are the big killers for me right now.

    Oh, what a pain. An hour's progress in my city vanished with just a click of a button. Forgot to save whole exiting to the region. Bah, I was losing money anyway and I can fix whatever wrong then. I still can't get rich sims and half of my city is dirty with run down buildings. I tried to expand the High-Tech industrial by building a new city dedicated just for that and there's at least some skyscrapers popping up on Awesomevill. What boggles me is that the high tech buildings in the industrial-only city went vacant after a while. I tried doing a few freight stations but it managed to fix a bit of that problem. Hmm...

    So, Bioshock Infinite was pretty neat. Not much for it's shooting but the setting is fantastic. Makes me want to see more of Columbia than to run around and flail the skyhook to the bads, though the game's a bit unsettling in some parts and I'm not talking about the violence. I just got Elizabeth out of that tower and now she's lost somewhere.

    I'm still playing Rift - it's still more fun and active and lively than Guild Wars 2 - leaping into every battle with a massive axe and cleaving multiple foes is still not tired.

    I couldn't give a rats-ass about the story, I'm ignoring it and just slashing my way through shit.

    Monaco - the singleplayer game is a fine stealth experience while the multiplayer starts that way but inevitably devolves into a chaotic mess. A fine example of entropy in a game if ever there was one.

    Been playing Arkham City quite a bit. It's really great, I think - a few additions which makes the game feel a lot different, lots of content (even excluding the riddler's trophy hunting) and the same enjoyable combat.

    Just continuing the Imperial Guard campaign in Dark Crusade. Trying to penetrate through the Necron stronghold was a real slog but I managed to blow it the fuck up. The best way to win this, imo, is to sweep dozens of pitiful soldiers through the map to their deaths before sending in the tanks. Usually the Basilisks are real game changer when I use the IG but they're ultimately better off holding positions in the bases I built, here. I don't think I have the confidence to take on the Orkz yet. Man, IG sucks with melee

    After two years of not playing any fps (DEHR does not count) I decided to play a bit of UT1 and UT3. Even managed to win one match on adept difficulty.

    I am very rusty tough. and need better mouse (using microsoft 12 dollar optical mouse)

    Fantastic night in Rift last night, still in the starter area (Level 14 at start - 17 when done) but there was some sort of invasion thingy on which meant huge groups of people kicking-ass everywhere you went.

    Being slightly higher than most I just leapt in a swept stuff aside in a hail of damage numbers, by the time it was over, half the landscape was sparkling with loot - I found one bit about 10 mins later when walking home!

    Still don't give a damn about the story, it just offers so many things to kill - every kill offers a quest to kill more things - there's someone behind every third tree wanting things killed, or collected from areas full of things to kill.

    OK - it's not original in any way but my oh my it likes to throw shit at you...

    See, a load of descriptions of MMOs make them sound really awesome, enticing even, but I know that as soon as I start it up, it won't be anywhere near as fun to actually play, I reckon.

    It depends what you want from a game - MMOs offer endless development and people to share it with but you have to WANT to develop and you have to find the right people to share it with.

    They require staggering amounts of time and whilst I tend to play most games in 30min-1hour bursts, for some reason I can sit with most MMOs for hours and hours so that doesn't bother me at all.

    Rift is probably the best example of a game which pushes players into grouping for stuff tho - and it seems good at balancing the content against the players avalilable (I've only once run into a group event we couldn't beat).

    MMOs are very much games that give out what you put in - they've not lazy corridor shooters you can quicksave every 10 paces in and there's seldom an ending but I LIKE that about them.

    Gonna start up Far Cry 3 today, see what all the fuss is about. Hopefully it'll be fun.

    I have a question for everyone who's playing Monaco: is the multiplayer still fun with random people? It seems like an incredibly interesting game, but I don't know anyone who would be interested in playing it, and I don't have a microphone so that element would also be out the window.

    I just put 3 hours into portal 2. On chapter five (just destroyed neurotoxin) I am playing singleplayer.

    So far. Funny and a bit interesting... yet what a shitty game that is. Just one long corridor. "Puzzles" if you can call them are darn easy to do and I spent more than five min only on those three lasers. No freedom whatsoever. The charm of Portal 1 where you could experiment, do puzzles your way is simply gone.
    I know people hyped co-op but SP is pretty rubbish. Only reason I am playing is to see what happens next.... yet even glados is annoying, with her constant whining.

    I Finished up two games this week, this first; Richard and Alice, was brilliant AGS game about 2 people in a post apocalyptic (not with a bang but a whimper scenario) prison sharing stories. The game element was minimal, puzzles being usually used to change the scene within the narrative. But the story was brilliant, the majority of the game played as a mother trying to defend her child in a hostile world (think the road), and it really hits the emotional nail on the head. Although you could see the plot twist a mile off (maybe you were supposed to) it didn’t leave the obvious conclusion any less powerful. Graphics are a bit shite, but if you can cope with that I recommend it.


    The second was Avadon: The Black Fortress. Finally. I’m not sure those 80 odd hours were well spent. I loved the politicking and the questing, but the game could have been a quarter of the size! I know Spiderweb prides itself in Vast RPGs but it simply didn’t work with such a focused and linear path through the game. I spent most of the game wondering around loose ends, which thankfully did all come to a brilliant climax, but I was still left with the feeling, not of grand hero, but of a soldier way out of their depth in a world full of NPCs who knew exactly what they were doing and the best way to manipulate me. If that’s what Jeff was going for, Bravo! If not I feel I could have been more invested in Avadon or the nations of the pact if I had been given a reason to be there in the first place.

    Saying that from what I’ve read Avadon wasn’t the best game in Spiderwebs Portfolio, and to be fair it kept me hooked right up till the end despite my gripes, so I’m going to give Avernum: Escape from the pit a bash.


    Also I’ve just played a few rounds of the best door welding simulator around, Killing Floor with RPS folk, which was stupid, stupid fun, if a bit slow in the run and gun department.


    Bought Hotline Miami, to see what all the fuss was about. Now I know. Please excuse me whilst I go and do all the cocaine in the world.
