The AK was maybe a bit too all-purpose, but it also just felt great, really properly action movie silly - firing this iconic thing from the hip and spraying a room down with bullets had real punch to it (thanks in part to the controller design.)

And so, more hours than I care to admit later, I'm done with Kingdoms of Amalur. It was, by and large a good ride. It's got an amazing, beautiful, massive world to explore, lots of side quests, generally well written dialog, and halfway interesting plot, and some of the most satisfyingly fluid action combat I've ever encountered. At the end, though, it's let down by the fact that its world is so much bigger than its mechanics. There's not nearly enough depth to the skill trees, moves, crafting, and loot systems to support a game of this breadth and length, unfortunately, such that by the end I was glad to be done because combat just meant hitting the same few combinations again and again. It didn't help that I was playing a mage and there's really no magic system as such, I suppose. Ah well, it was still a good ride, but I can't help but see a massive pile of squandered potential in hindsight. It would have been interesting to see what 38 would have done next, had they survived. Now we'll never know.
It hadn't really been my intention to get involved in a long form RPG when I fired up KoA to look at it, I really don't know what I was thinking. I've no idea what to play next, but it needs to be less involving because I don't have time for that sort of thing right now!
On the MP side of things, we're still playing a very slow war of attrition in Warlock 2. I'm not sure anyone thought through balance when they made this game, or perhaps we just got unlucky running into a Dremer shard as our third world. Regardless, we're making progress, but it's arduous and I think my co-op partner is losing interest.

I tried replaying The Matrix: Path of Neo last night. I finished the game years and years ago, and I had forgotten what the game was like. I ended up ragequitting after 30 minutes, because of unskippable cutscenes, awkward controls, and a bug that prevented me from scaling up the resolution above 800x600. I wonder how I was able to put up with it when I first played it.

Not quite sure what is going on with me. I started watching World of Tanks videos and streams, like I always do when I'm building up to a bout of WoT, then I played the game for a day, had a good bit of fun and then ... I didn't play anymore.
Normally I play for a month or so before taking another long break, so this is a bit weird.
Played a little Minecraft, but I think I may be working up to trying Mechwarrior Online. I've watched some of SideStrafe's videos about it and it looks nice (I suspect I really just want to play MW3, but it sounds like that's nearly impossible to get to work on modern systems). Also watched him streaming it last night and was rather impressed when a MWO employee joined him on Skype to answer questions from someone in the chat who was very upset with the new Clan mechs being overpowered and, apparently (I wasn't watching the chat) accused them of being pay2win.
The people making the game seem rather nice.

MP's kung fu edition too is just as clunky when it comes to controls and progression.
It's still cooler compared to matrix games and there were lots of action games (of arguable quality) around that time to keep people away from matrix crappiness (dmc3, ut's, the specialists, mp2, warsow and whatever). Good times

Also, I found the game much easier when I realised you don't need to conquer and hold territory, just move past things if they're too difficult. Though I will say relocating your capital to the last or penultimate shard is a good idea for more efficient use of the resurrection spell.

As a first experience with the game, though, it was seriously demoralizing. We've been at this for like 150 turns, and we're just now able to really move past that shard. I feel like things are turning, because we're finally getting some powerful heroes and some higher tier units, but it was far too much of a grind to get there.

@vinraith & Fumarole You both make Warlock 2 sound fun, but then I like failing when my strategy is flawed. I'd until now completely ignored it as being practically a Civ 4 mod.
I've been dipping my toe into Sid Meier's Assassins! but I keep avoiding the narrative. I think the underlying knowledge that soon I'll get the Jackdaw and all of my effort will amount to 1% of the game world is actually putting me off.

Gimbal. I love the concept. Build and tweak Spaceships with a multitude of clever options, take them into battle, blow up the enemy. It combines two of my most popular activities, wrenchwrestling stuff and blowing stuff up. It's also an indie multiplayer title, so it's going to be having the problem of old players just being all around better than new players and pounding them into the ground. That's alright though, it's got Bots. I've had fun building ships and taking them into battle.
It's just... sigh. Unlocksystem. While playing you unlock additional components for your spaceship, this is an excersice that takes about 2 hours. It's completely pointless and stupid as well. The higher level components are just flatout better and higher level players get to spend more budget points on their ships as well. The power difference is so ridiculous that a Rank 4 Ship instagibs a Rank 1 Ship with autoaiming long distance turrets.
Why do this? Especially since it takes about 2 hours to unlock everything? But that's not the worst part. The latest update introduced the Unlimited mode. Someone that unlocked everything twice (you've got to reset and do it all over again), can create unlimited mode ships. Previously the buildpoints were capped at 6.000. With unlimited, you can keep on earning them past this level. I went into a multiplayer game (there aren't many to pick from) with 6040 Buildpoints. My opponents had around 90.000 Buildpoints. They were quite literally unkillable for me, I couldn't even scratch their armor. I had a ship that was little more than a missile platform, I shot over 200 rockets at a target, he turned and instagibbed me. I took maybe 1% of his health and no matter what ship I build, unless I get up to crazy high buildpoints, I can't even begin to scratch their ships. Problem: The multiplayer community is extremely small and everyone with crazy high buildpoints wants to use them. Noobs go home indeed.

Path of Exile, in anticipation of the next mini-expansion. Chopping and changing between characters - my Scion is struggling on Normal (Animate Guardian really doesn't feel that useful) but my Witch is steamrolling straight through Merciless - I've died a couple of times but Jesus, by this point I can field 30+ minions with multiple damage buffs, elemental resistances and regenerating/leeching life in the space of a few seconds - even wandering uniques (monsters, rogue exiles etc.) don't pose much of a threat if I stay clear of them while my platoon does the work. I'm sure Piety and Dominus will hand me my ass as usual, but other than that, you go, girl.
And yet it's still fun, when D3 just... isn't, much, even though Normal in D3 is similarly a formality. I guess D3 it feels like nothing I do matters beyond holding down the mouse buttons, whereas PoE does actually require some level of planning and (slight) strategising, even when it's being really, really easy. Plus, hey, doing the whole "Onwards, my pretties!" thing always makes these games a little more entertaining, right? (I'm not playing Witchdoctor in D3; I hear that's the go-to class if you want to order critters about.)

If you happen to restart and own the super-duper-not-really-worth-the-asking-price-but-I-paid-so-little-for-the-first-and-had-such-fun-I-felt-I-should-get-it edition you can play as the dragon mage, which is a unit in the game and also acts as your (mobile) capital city. That might help with situations like the one you currently find yourself in. Since it is a flying unit, you can usually sneak around the borders of too-dangerous areas.
I just thought of one thing: you haven't encountered the diamond elementals yet, have you? Those were the first units that really gave me a whopping (didn't find the dremer world in my first game). My poor heroes...
