Tried Half Life: Blue Shift but honestly just couldn't be arsed with the puzzles. Maybe I'm getting old, maybe it's getting old, but one way or another I just wanted to enjoy a short-ish sort-of vignette of B. Calhoun's take on the events of Half Life, not spend ages working out how to reach a funicular. Not that I'd know how long it takes, mind, I gave up after a few minutes.
I also tried Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. I realise it's not Ghost Recon but since that's still the benchmark of the series for me I couldn't help but compare it. It has the same dumb AI that go down in two hits and the guns feel so weak they might as well still be crosshairs of instant hitscan death as per the original, but in this one you can take a whole load of hits - pretty big hits, too, like a few 5.56 rounds fired in long bursts at close range - before you die. At least now you can say 'you go there, you follow me and you shoot that guy', but that's the other thing; you used to be able to have two squads of three or three squads of two (or whatever), now you just have you and three other guys, predictably one is a rifleman, one a machinegunner and the third is a marksman.

For reasons I'm not entirely sure of I've started a run through of Crysis, even though I've played it before and have many other games waiting for me that I haven't touched. I wanted something which was immersive but dumb, but that's not doing it credit at all, it really is an excellent game. Until the yknow bit. But that's a way off yet. And to give it credit, for all the premise is 90's Blockbuster movie, it really cribs from that stuff very well. The pacing and cut scenes and scale are very well done, it does a really good job of making you feel vulnerable to events and numbers in spite of your super powers.
And I just crept up the road and killed two people by throwing a crate at them, cloaked into a base where I threw another guy out the window, cloaked up to another guy who I threw into a shack, causing the walls to collapse and kill the base's remaining guards, after carefully planning the whole thing.
Still looks incredible as well. I think in the past it was overlooked on account of being an ALL THE GRAPHICS offering but it's a really terrific shooter/combat sim, better than most that have followed it. Real challenge on hard as well, anything other than a headshot just gives away your position, the enemy soldiers all act like elites, and fan out effectively to find you, you need to properly plan your approach like a spec ops, and generally be a slick bad ass to progress. It's an experience which offers all of the power and vulnerability you would expect from playing an isolated tactical superman.

Finished Dead Space last night (I got it for free on Origin). It was okay, but not spectacular. I did get used to the controls, even though I still think the controls are too unresponsive and tank-like to play comfortably. What bothered me most about the game was the total lack of scariness. I haven't been remotely frightened even once.Want to add me on Steam? Steam name: Mr. Gert

Yeah. Few foreshadows were cool. The best one was when it got completely dark and Isaac's head was glowing like a lantern but it lasted a second.

Unless you tweak the configuration files, at which point you can make your armor mode bulletproof, your cloak infinite, and your strength and speed hilariously awesome.Steam: Gundato

Crusader Kings 2. Had to exterminate a branch of my dynasty because they lost our ancestral homeland in Sicily. Had about 17 men killed, most of them pretty young. They were Catholic though, and we don't like that sort of thing anymore in the Cathar Kingdom of Jerusalem, so they are twice damned. Both failures and heretics.
When I've consolidated my power base in Egypt, I'll keep going west until I see Andalusia. Will probably take Sicily back before then if the Byzantines have a crisis or something. My presence in the holy lands caused them to become a major power again because the Muslims are all too focused on me. Oh well. They can be useful if I don't get to deal with them before the Turks and the Mongols arrive in force.

Finally took the time to finish the walking dead season 1. No reason to start a new discussion about it after all this time, but suffice to say I thought it was great in many ways while having some obvious issues (silly QTE:s, occasionally strange/weak sound design, really low res textures). It does its thing and that's that. I enjoyed it, but don't think I'll play season 2 any time soon. I feel pretty satisfied with the ending and have no need of elaboration, at least for the moment.
Next, I don't really know. I'll be playing some titanfall, and maybe look into blood dragon, that I got for cheap a while ago and is allegedly quite short.

Far Cry 2 has made me incredible at Crysis. I know how to turn everything to hand into a weapon now and set up killing grounds, am breezing through it on hardest difficulty.
Just took another base by sneaking around headshotting in cloaked mode, cloak runs out and i can be seen, oh no, so I grab a crate and bowl over two mooks before disappearing in the confusion, run into a shack, reappear and take a few more shots, then climb onto the bins which I have placed next to the shack in cloaked mode, lie prone on the roof until the remaining troops go into the shack to look for me, at which I point I punch the roof in strength mode which causes it to cave in and crush them all.
Have also taken out machine gun nests by driving into them, jumping out and then shooting the vehicle to blow them up, and also by lobbing an explosive barrel and shooting it mid air to create a massive bomb. Also did a good Velociraptor impression as I led a pursuing unit into a bamboo field, at which point I crept up and took them out one by one as they got separated.
For my next project I want to incorporate a jeep crushing people, preferably off a cliff, going to take some planning though. Also yet to do obligatory chicken/turtle as missile weapon.

Progressed through an additional level in Teleglitch. There are a few spoilers ahead on which monsters are in the levels beyond 7. A few days ago I got killed again by a laser squid robot and then just like the last time, on my way back from the teleporter, those big taser drones killed me because I mistook them for small taser drones. In the next game I got to the same level with another laser squid robot appearing out of nowhere - the sneaky fuck - but I was able to make a quick retreat and I threw a nailbomb at it, which killed it instantly! I knew those things packed a punch but I had no idea they wrecked robots like that. The big taser drones that followed, I took out with the tesla coil. I'm not sure if it's the best weapon to use against armored opponents but it's fun as hell. I triggered a swarm of bots from a pipe and held the fire button on the tesla coil down for two seconds before they were all reduced to scrap. Great weapon! I had a lasgun as well but I didn't see any reason to use it over the tesla coil.
What I didn't know is that there are even more laser squid robots in that level, and one cornered me in a robot assembly room. I was lucky to get past it without too much damage, and keeping my distance it wasn't hard to gun it down with a mg-hv. I think level 8 contained about 5 of them in total, most of them escorted by taser drones or guards, but previously I made the mistake of treating them as a boss fight, meaning I'd run around the room trying to flank it, when I should have run down the corridor and fire at it from a distance where it can't lock on to me with its laser.
I think I got all the way to the end of level 9 where there was another big stompy murderborg waiting for me. I stepped partway through the door, saw the green light next to it, looked at my health (60) and armor (none) and already knew that I had no chance of winning this encounter. I was holding on to life by a thread on multiple occasions already. Maybe next time I'll make it.
I'm also surprised that unlike a few months ago, I'm not shaking with adrenaline after I reach a level further than five. I wonder what changed?

Today I tried a 4X game, namely StarDrive, which was gifted to me about two weeks ago. I didn't understand what I was supposed to be doing, but I did only skim-read the 'tutorial'. I might try GalCiv2 before I try StarDrive again so I can compare.
Also, ShootMania Storm. So much fun. It's an old school shooter eSport-y kind of thing, so you move fast and kill in one or two hits. The mode I played involved two teams of three people, but one team - the attackers - only had one player playing per round. They can take three hits, run faster than the defenders and kill in one hit, but the attackers could fire five shots before needing to reload. The attacker had to either kill all three defenders or capture the flag by standing next to it for about 5-10 seconds, the defenders either had to run out the clock or kill the attacker, of course. It was fantastically tense being the attacker, knowing the other two guys were watching you, and I had some absolutely brilliant rounds. At one point I thought I was genuinely going to have a heart attack or something.
It turns out the Missing Link DLC really has put me off finishing DX:HR again (Director's Patch, this is). I steamed through the game up to that point but I haven't touched it for over a month now.

Im having a hard time trying to finish Batman: AC again. I now remember why I walk away in disgust when I first played it. The story is atrocious. Right now, Im in the part where Batman just defeated Mr Freeze. I just shake my head and quit the game. Maybe I will just start Batman: Origins without beating B:AC again.

That would make defensive modes (last man standing-like) the only proper ones. It's beyond me because I haven't played it but all recent arenas/old school shooters have failed in a way or another so Warsow is the latest thing I tried.
@sonson I'm not a crysis fan but videos blending the fps/stealth genres the way crysis was meant for can be amusing

Had a LAN-party last weekend where I/we played the following games:
Killing Floor - Still a great game to play with other, though we all lack a bit of leadership to succesfully organize the team: Some people really don't have a clue of their whereabouts, becoming unintentional lone-wolfs. Though of course not for long, when they're swarmed by the Zeds. Shamefully, we never managed to defeat the Patriarch on Normal (and to think there's a Hard, Suicidal & Hell on Earth mode)
Call of Duty: World at War - Some levels are highly enjoyable, but the maps with the tanks are annoying as hell. And this game does get boring after a while, but I guess that has something to do about the predictablity of the people you play with, and the weapons they use.
Serious Sam 2 HD - Chaos & fun, but not much of a thrill/challenge. Our game kept being filled with random Russian dudes, which is always weird and feels like someone suddenly trespassing ;)
Company of Heroes - I had pretty high hopes for this one, but the others didn't like it... I think the learning curve is a bit too high, and they just wanted to "get it started", which doesn't really work out for Company of Heroes. Patience is a virtue long lost / there's too little time in a LAN-party*
Payday the Heist - Only played this for a short bit, but we couldn't really figure out how to play this game. We treated it as a FPS with objectives, but I guess that's wrong? Because cops keep on showing up in an endless stream, and the objectives are sometimes quite vague. Though I heard that Payday 2 actually solves a lot of the issues??
What we didn't play, but I wish we did:
- Red Faction Guerilla: Couldn't get this to run properly (LAN games could not be found and $!@#%^@!# GFWL...!)
- Aliens vs. Predator (2010): Only tested it a bit with 2 players, which seemed fun (especially playing an alien while being hungover ;). We just didn't get to play this. I did notice that the controls were a bit of a mess, and that playing it right would take a while. Still, I saw a lot of potential fun in there.
- Men of war: I didn't bother them with this game, when Company of Heroes was not that well received. Could be a hectic bit of fun in my opinion, though micro heavy as well.
- Saint Row 3 Co-op: Tested this out with a friend to see if it works, but we couldn't get it up and running sadly...

You can still play it all shooty shooty bang bang, but you'll never kill ALL the cops. The objectives are much more clear and most of them have varying degrees of completeness. For example one is to steal art from a gallery. You can steal up to 10 I think, but you might only need 5 to finish the job, the rest will just net you more money or maybe an advantage in a later level. Which is another thing they made better in Payday 2. A lot of the jobs make up a small part of a bigger crime.

I'm trying to ghost it and I guess it's possible but not very enjoyable, msot of the time I end up knocking everyone out and then exploring the level.
First time I ever spoke to that homeless black woman. Did all the drama back in the day was really about her? Why? I don't get it.
