Wich kind of cities do you have?
Undead cities are a must for a proper Mana income, wich in turn is needed for a decent army, since all that extra mana will allow you to have a nice number of summoned units.
If you still find yourself struggling with the economy, find a portal and colonize it. Those planes are a hard nut to crack, but once you do it, you'll have more resources than you can use.

I've been playing for 47 turns and have been able to build, at best, perhaps 12 units in that time. How on Earth could I maintain "constant combat?" Clearly I'm doing something wrong, here.

Also, I've got mana farms and mana collectors but they don't seem to be giving me any mana. Anyone know what would be up with that? I mean, if i add up the production from those I should be getting +9 mana out of the city in question, but it's producing 0 mana (and there are no structures using mana in that city).

Edit: Never mind, figured out the output/input per city thing in the display. Undead use mana like other races use food. That makes all kinds of sense, actually. I've still got no idea how to manage the economy in this thing, though. I'm clearly doing a piss-poor job of it right now.

As for the last seven months, I am playing nothing because my GPU is dead and it seems, however unlikely it sounds, that my two new ones for a new system have arrived dead too. So I thought I'd be back in the game, aha ha, by now, but to no avail. I have a Windows 7 system on the new one, and was on XP before (I know). Accordingly I still haven't played plenty of things I want to, including Dishonored, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Hotline Miami etc. These are things I would hypothetically be playing, perhaps.

I just watched BLOPS2 on Youtube. Pretty entertaining and I see nothing wrong with millions of people buying this game. Ridicule them all you want, assume they are all xbawx teenagers( like some people around here) even though it's clearly not true, blame consoles and "mainstream media", whatever. Of course, I'm not going to buy it or pirate it but for reasons different from your typical cod-hating crowd. I hated Cod before it was considered good taste. But as a game I see nothing wrong with it, COD delivers everything it promises and execution is far above everything else availible on the market. It's a linear FPS and very over the top. Well, good, what did you expect? Some guy here said something like "Less Michael Bay, more Joss Whedon". What? In a MMS? You actually want an FPS with a cast of witty wisecracking characters in such a game? Maybe less swearing and gore?

    Market forces, yeah.

I had the first two CODs, as was respectable enough, and then had MW2 and BLOPS - and I quite agree. They deliver what they promise, and do that part well. The singleplayer I hate because I hate those kinds of unthinking films too. I'd rather see The Deerhunter than Rambo. And while I'd welcome a wargame, or any other, with a well-crafted cerebral element, no matter how I feel about seeing Rambo, I'd happily *be* him every now and then. It's limited, the fanbase does seem to consist, in the main, of a demographic quite different to me - but sometimes it's ok to scratch that itch. I play ArmaII too, or did. I don't get the obsession with COD, but the hatred is not well-founded in all ways.

I feel the need to point out that First Blood (ie. Rambo I) was not an "unthinking" film. It's actually a pretty stark film with little gratuitous violence, made even more so if you go by the alternate ending wher Rambo dies.

Rambo 3 was totally mindless though. And it had a goddamn kid in it for some reason. Fucking Hollywood.

Legitimately painful choices, no right answers. This isn't like Mass Effect where clicking on the Red or Blue will lead to complete s success. You can and should get things 'wrong' and feel bad about it.

The economy takes a little getting used to. It's easy to get yourself into a situation in which you're bleeding gold every turn with no immediate way of fixing it other than disbanding desperately needed units.

The two things that helped me: firstly, specialise cities. Obvious, but super important with respect to gold. You need a couple of cities with a gold mine or a trading post (from donkeys), or some other gold producing resource, pushed all the way up the gold producing branch. Do pass up the early opportunity to make Donkey Knights or have a Silver Armoury. You need the gold more.

Secondly, watch out for building upkeep costs. Some of the upgrade buildings in particular can be very expensive to maintain, and you'll need to be able to buy the upgrade on top of that.

Hmm, now that I think about it, thirdly: no penalty for having lots of cities. So city sprawl is the optimum way to play. Fill all available space.

I mention gold a lot because I always have trouble with it. Undead cities give heaps of mana, and expenditure is easy enough to control by being careful with the enchantments or summons one is throwing around. A specialist city or two will grow plenty of food to keep you going even without fancy resources. If you find your economy tanking because you are suddenly way in the red on food some unspeakable bastard is casting Locust Swarm on your cities. Dispelling it all is a royal pain, and you may not even have the right spell to do it. I think it's a divine spell from the Orc sounding god whose name escapes me. I recommend not letting anyone who might have the spell scout your cities, even if it means going to war.

Played ep. 4 of The Walking Dead... not a smart idea to start playing this at midnight. Now it's 3a, I have to get to bed and... sigh.

Also played a bit of Thomas Was Alone this weekend. I was enjoying it a fair bit, but some of the later levels are getting a bit too twitchy to my liking.

I find it rather strange that none of my neighbours AC are actually moving despite them packing their furniture up for their move in the next day. Well, looks like begging them to stay worked out I guess

There's one decision I made in episode 2 that still haunts me. I don't think this qualifies as a spoiler, but just to be safe: When I compared my choices to the community's I saw that what I assumed had been an impossible task, I actually failed at. In this instance, doing half the job was a lot worse than doing nothing at all. If you've played you can probably guess what I'm talking about.

I'm playing a lot of The Saboteur lately. Why didn't I find out sooner about this game? It's the game I always dreamed about... Sandbox, stealth, running through roofs... I love it! ^^

Trying to start a Shogun 2 Total War (or whatever way round thenomenclature is) campaign. Finally seems like the Total War game out of the box that Iíve been hoping for so long, but I no longer have the time to play it without taking a holiday, not sure if itís the sort of thing you can dip in and out of as you could with previous TW iterations, it looks pretty involved and dense (hence my excitement).

Dark Souuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuls. I love this game. I've been trolled, I've been killed, I've lost tens of thousands of souls and I still can't get past the next fucking boss, but I wouldn't change a thing (except the fucking shoddy netcode).

Hopefully I'll get to play Dishonored soon. I found it in my mailbox when I arrived this afternoon, two weeks after I ordered the game. Was supposed to take 3 to 7 days. Now that I have the package, I see why: It had to come from Hong fooking Kong! And they shipped it for free. Must have been out of stock everywhere else...
