[AAR] Sun 08 April 2012 (Zombie Love) - Folk Session

A nice regular cross-post from the Folk event we had tonight.

Easter Sunday is a time for Family, Fun, Hope, Holidays and Hot Lead. It's no real surprise that turnout was in the mid teens (though maybe the news that Comrade Fer had my hot water cut off a month ago got around before I arrived on the scene) but we had a cosy little session all the same.

The attacking OpFor won soundly in Cocktails. The punch had too much punch, and thus the UN officials were caught with their pants down.

Fog was lead by yours truly. It was a tidy little seek and destroy operation on the coast of Chernarus, where our silenced weapons and the reduced visibility allowed us to carve through the enemy.

Mail Man saw some new faces try their hands at piloting. It was a success, but not without cost. A chopper crash meant that the return leg turned into a logistics exercise so we skipped onto something more... challenging.

Belenus is one of my missions. We had to assault a British base, steal some explosives and then blow up an oil storage facility. The fatality rate was incredibly high despite the low visibility. A single defending soldier from Cornwall cut down half of the players who had survived the main assault on the base. The three who made it to the base were cut down by a small, final patrol. The last moments saw Unaco, torn between trying to set off his comrades’ bombs and engaging the enemy, being filled with hot death just as he brought his rifle to bear.

Naturally, this was followed by a Buffet of death. “Run for the hills,” I commanded. The bus we were escorting was damaged, officials killed, and our platoon decimated. There is little more to be said.

A grand Finale was how we closed the night. Comrade Carooke was shanghaied into a command position but was unable to shame us all into a winning performance.

In other news, Comrade Jeffke’s necrophiliac tendencies have been noted by the party. The higher echelons of staff are confused why this means he’d be LESS inclined to play on the front lines, and thus a full (and invasive) investigation will be forthcoming.

    See you next week, Comrades.

Thank you attendees for good times! Let it be shown in the books of history that we conquered all in the following scenarios:

    • Red Snow (Chernarus)
    • Reclamation (Takistan)
    • Search & Destroy (Zargabad)

    ARPS FIGHTING!

Thanks for organizing it! Been a long time since I was able to play on Tuesdays and I forgot how much fun it is. I really liked harakka's new mission. There was just one bug we found in Able: while attacking the Chedaki (?) camp, the kills registered as friendly fire.

I honestly had no idea what happened in the last 5 minutes of the mission. We moved into the vehicles compound only for a truck with an AA gun mounted on it to open fire at us and kill everyone but me. I crept up to it under cover and killed the gunner (whose model was a bit weird, as in he had a white face as if the texture was missing) and I went back to revive the rest of the team only to find out there was another truck somewhere which got pissed off and opened fire. Then everything exploded around us and I got a rocket in the face, courtesy of Iceraiser. The end!

Not a bug, I should've realised we were Ruskies when I was telling everyone that they were hostile. Chedaki forces and Russian forces are both OPFOR (REDFOR?)

No Chedaki Defense Forces are Blufor. Only the chedaki insurgents (dressed in camo and jumpsuits) are OPFOR.

    Slenderman!

But on a more serious note, Harakka told me he probably didn't identify those jumpsuit wearing farmers as enemies. I assume it'll be fixed in the next version. Other than that, great mission! I hope we'll be able to finish it someday.

I would also like to tell everyone who missed it: Washington and I bravely sacrificed ourselves in the final mission by blowing up the weapons cache with our fists. For glory!

Reclamation was good fun as always and I think we now have the process of actually getting into Sakhe down pretty well. The ARPS vehicular theft reflex just causes trouble with all the trucks and tanks at the last bit. For Seek and Destroy I was already half-asleep, so I just followed IceRaiser and shot at things when ordered to, which is a surprisingly good tactic it seems.

As for the first mission, as the official tourism board representative of Chernarus, let me put this faction dispute to rest. The Chernarus armed groups are as follows:

    • Chernarussian Defence Forces aka CDF, the official government troops (BLUFOR)

    • National Party aka NAPA, guerrillas who fight against any foreign influences, incuding their own supposedly corrupt government (resistance so they can swing both ways)

    • Chernarussian Movement of the Red Star aka ChDKZ, aka Chedaki in slang, guerilla army nostalgic for the old Soviet times, with some backing from Russia (OPFOR)

The friendly gentlemen some of you had the pleasure of slaughtering in the camp were indeed ChDKZ guerrillas. The backstory for this mission detail is that ChDKZ believe Russian takeover will herald the coming of old Soviet-style life and are thus assisting with the Russian invasion.

The Russians however aren't terribly interested in communism and all that, so even though ChDKZ are useful for harassing the CDF during the initial assault, they are undisciplined, uncontrollable and don't follow the current political ideology, and thus they can be shot if the situation warrants as they'll eventually need to be disowned and disarmed anyway.

As a mission maker, I didn't communicate the gist of this well enough, and I also didn't have them show up as enemies which they essentially are for your purposes. This and many other things will be fixed in the next revision, as I've got a lot of good feedback. I'm still willing to take more though!

This I refuse to believe! However I did enjoy the mission a lot. Do I get anything for spotting your name tag on the wall?

I enjoyed first mission a lot, although I had late start because of damn Project Reality mod turned On.
I was wondering If I could prepare some mission.

You will get 20% off on a one-way tourist-class ticket to Chernarus, once Aeroshrot finds all their missing AN-2's and can start operating again.

I assure you that any name tags there are not my doing... But it may just be the people of Chernarus appreciating my efforts to fertilize their already beautiful land by bloodshed. You need to show me that spot some time :P

Thank you! I was looking for a nice place to spend my honeymoon... I will find a nice prole villa near Zargabad and re-read some of the party-approved classic theorists.

Yeah in the mission notes it says eliminate the occupants of the camp so we did.

Competence is unloading a shotgun into the back of your comrade at point blank range, because there's a filthy gang-member standing on the other side of him (and he's expendable). That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. And as General Secretary for Eternity, I am sure that the 20+ comrades who came along tonight will agree with my view. Right? Anyway, thank you to everyone who came along tonight. There was some great work for our COs and element leaders, particularly comrade Pummage, who managed to get Aziz to the aeroplane without any losses to the platoon in Fall of Aziz. Please post your thoughts, unsubstantiated accusations and media here.

A thoroughly entertaining session, I would like to make Jailbreak a bit smoother running and balanced so let me know of any ideas.

    Fall of Aziz
    Alpha FTL
Alpha were in the centre of a tight formation to push West across Northern Zargabad. We encountered relatively few enemy infantry on the first half of the mission with just the odd attack from distance. In the latter half we moved with Delta to secure the construction site just NE of the airfield and passage for Aziz, we had a brief engagement with infantry near the airfield before all was quiet and Aziz moved into the airfield.

    Payback
    CO
The plan required all units to attack from several directions following Alpha's lead. The attack went smoothly despite enemy UAZs escaping the killzone. We quickly geared up with Bravo and Delta providing security for the other elements. B & D then scouted the nearby buildings that would provide as the base for our assault on the southern airfield buildings. After they removed the nearby enemy presence we moved in with A, C and D moving to the compound wall and Bravo and Echo fireteams providing security. With Alpha and Charlie moving northwards towards the hangers Bravo were tasked with securing our Eastern flank towards the city, Delta were now with Echo covering our South and the airstrip. As the enemy were repelled to the south we cleared the infantry surrounding the buildings and moved to secure the hangers with Bravo moving in with explosives to take down the hangers. There was then a sudden bang and blackness.

    Jailbreak
    Bravo AT
We were the infantry element pushing first into the fog North towards the town, all was quiet until an enemy patrol strolled out of the undergrowth about 50 metres from our position, we dispatched them quickly without loss. We moved closer to the airfield only to stumble upon an enemy BTR which was taken down quickly only for me to take a single round of something high calibre much to the surprise of everyone around.

    Cholo #1
    Bravo FTL
Bravo was to assault from the South, we did so, smoking and breaching through the Southeastern entrance and supporting Alpha up the stairs a quick search and the last enemy were eliminated.

    Cholo #2
    Bravo Gang member
Astutecat and I provided distraction and comedy value by assaulting from the south in a high speed insertion via blue party wagon. It didn't last long.

All in all rather entertaining stuff

[AAR] Tactical Tuesday 17/04/2012 - The darkness is not our best friend

We sounded the trombones like badasses and it went downhill from there.

    The missions:
    • Roundabout
    • Sabotage (Adv)
    • Lights Out!
    • UNpopular Guests (2x)

Thanks to everyone who joined, it's always great to see new faces and former new faces becoming regulars. Remember there's FOLK sunday each sunday (durrr), which offers even more opportunity for deathcharges and meatgrinders.

Did egg capture footage of himself flying the chopper into the OPFOR vehicles on UNpopular guests?

The meatgrinder missions are pretty great when we actually survive for a while.

I like the idea of the UNpopular guests, however I think it needs the bugs working out a little, lots of DCs and very difficult for opfor as it stands.

Loved playing with you guys again, can't wait to pick up my new computer and play with you guys again.

I have no idea what caused it as there's literally nothing big in terms of scripts and the rain should not cause that much (or any) problems.

Yeah it was weird, maybe something to do with the civilians? I don't know. Was really fun...Egg trying to crash his helocopter into me....me shooting him and his helocopter crashing into me anyway!
