Thread: What TV shows are you watching?

I think it helped that you had this large, majestic craft in the Enterprise D and to see it fire on something just made it look even cooler. And then you had the futuristic refit from 'All Good Things', which in itself was an amazing hour and a half of science fiction, made all the better by hearing the lines "There's another ship decloaking. It's the Enterprise!" "We'll get their attention" *Blows up a battleship so hard it FLIES THROUGH WHERE IT WAS BECAUSE NO DEBRIS WAS LEFT*
I think one of the top YouTube comments highlights it best:
Riker: "I'll see if I can get the Klingons' attention. Helmsman, Riker Maneuver Alpha...y'know, a wicked upward spiral rollover 720 McTwist thingy. Weapons officer, arm forward murdercannon bank, set power to 'Rip Several New Assholes', and fire at will."
I actually have this silly theory that Star Trek and Star Wars are sort of a beginning's guide to sci-fi. They show the core elements of what you can do with a completely different setting, with a variety of un/subtle concepts and items that can get you thinking. I look back at both of them now and find them a little hard to swallow, but I do know that TNG will forever stay with me. Maybe there's something akin to having 'a first Doctor' with Dr. Who that there is with Star Trek?

Well thats probably why there are still wars fought over who was the best captain because people either grew up with Kirk and the original series, Picard with TNG, or Sisko with DS9 and for some people Janeway with Voyager.
Also this with TNG will always be seared to my memory:

Oh my, Robot Wars! Sir Killalot, the self righting mechanism revolution, Razor vs Hypnodisk, the utterly pointless but somewhat comedic ref bot.

About to watch the final of three episodes of the German series Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter (tonight, 20:15 ZDF), a mini-series about young people who end up involved in various ways in the disastrous World War II. Quite interesting, especially since it's been followed by talk shows in which historians, artists, 'old & young people' etc. discuss the series and the wider context. If you speak German it's well worth a look!
"He has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to
the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free". ~ Luke 4:18

I do also remember one truly awesome episode of DS9 where the Klingons attacked. Still doesn't quite match up to some of the Babylon 5 episodes though - man those quad cannon defense guns looked awesome, as did the Earth Alliance cruisers.
Hah, I'd completely forgotten about ref bot. Just looking back at some of the robots now there's so much I'd forgotten. I remember Razor as the one that always looked like it should be awesome but often fell to reliability problems. Hynodisc I do remember clearly - its difficult to forget something able to shred sheet metal! Am I right in recalling one called Cassius Clay or something that was the first one able to right itself? That was pretty awesome

Going to be not all that outrageous and say: The Following, Cosmos, Hawaii Five 0, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Grimm, Once Upon a Time, Touch, Hogan's Heroes, Last Man Standing (US sitcom), Numb3rs...

It's one of those episodes of any show that if you see is on you go "Oh man, I totally have to watch that! Screw whatever else I need to do!" I strongly recommend you go and watch it.

After googling it, it seems we remembered wrong - apparently it was capable of the feat but never did it on screen as it pitted itself at the wrong angle for it's pneumatic spike to bounce it out.
Love the tidbit of info in that that the designer of Cassius was the creator of Brum!

I'm positive I saw one bot do that, but never mind! Gosh, I'm actually in a mood now for a bit of TNG. At its best, it really is good television, but so much of the show was so middling and formulaic. You could tell when an episode would go through the motions and you'd be able to time it to the minute of when a problem would occur, when they would work out what the problem is, try and fail their first attempt, only to come up with a quick solution that goes on to work. Whilst some of the good episodes did follow this, it tended to be the ones that broke from this that were the best.
(I feel obliged to say there was a pretty decent Star Trek game called Bridge Commander. Worth a check out!)

Yeah I would probably say the best season of Sta Trek is 4 or 5 it had very lovely episodes and did definitely stepped up on the science fiction stories it was telling. The weakest one I think was the last sure there was one or two episodes were good and the finale was amazing such a great ending but for the most part I don't think the writers were doing anything the episodes were very generic and forgettable and very boring. The main characters were very good on that show.
In fact I think it is characters that seem to make a show for me even though in the past I thought it was the crazy science fiction stories.

Edit: Just saw the latest Walking Dead episode and laughed.
I've always felt damaged yet sympathetic Governor and evil psychopathic Governor were two completely different jarring characters, or at least in the way they're portrayed. This episode sees the Governor chasing Andrea into a house of horrors. He's whistling cheerful tunes, scraping his shovel against the wall to announce his coming like he's Freddy Krugar or something, and generally having a grand ole time. I know they were going for a chilling atmosphere but that intention just made it funnier.

Naked and Marooned with Ed Stafford. Ed is dumped on a tropical island with naught but his tackle. Must survive for 60 days. Great viewing. The program, not his tackle. Discovery, Thursdays at 9.

Man I miss Robot Wars. There was some really great designs on that, Razer and Gemini where probably two of my favourites. There was also one, I can't remember it's name that went against the trend of "lets give it a flipper to right itself" and just had it's body so slim the wheels came out on both sides.
Then you had those "what where you thinking" ones. Like the one that walked on six legs and was so incredible top heavy that it just got pushed over and GG. And my personal favourite wtf robot was the one that was covered in red and black flammable cloth."Halo is designed to make the player think "I look like that, I am macho sitting in my undies with my xbox""
