    X-Files

Fringe is a good x-Files kind of replacement I would say and the main storyline actually gets finished and makes sense! Which I have to say is genrally a rare gem now a days. Saying that the first season is a little shaky starting really terrbly and then after the first half the writers kind of change direction. If you not seen it I recommend the end of this post to show you which episodes to start from.(SPOILERS IF YOU READ IT ALL)

breaking Bad is another good one but I assume you've watched that. Mad Men I've heard really good things about but I've not watched it though.

Watched the first episode of BBC's Ripper Street last night and didn't expect too much, from the trailers it looked a collection of tired themes that have been recycled once too often (Holmesian detectives/serial killers/Victorian London/East-end whores & geezers). But it turned out to be very good, certainly the best new British crime drama I've seen since the modern Sherlock reboot, this is high quality stuff.

Basically it's hardboiled, gritty detective noir relocated to the Victorian era. The snuff-film plot of the first episode was surprisingly dark and nasty for a 9pm show on the BBC. The look, the dialogue and the dark tone are spot on throughout. There's more than a bit of a 'British Deadwood' feel about this (minus the creative profanities), from the title sequence onward. Will be watching the second one tonight, I hope they can keep this quality up for the rest of the season.

Whilst I haven't seen The Sopranos, I'm reliably told Mad Men is a better show by the same guy. I do watch Mad Men though and can definitely say I incredibly enjoy it.
Not that reliable, considering Matthew Weiner (Mad Men creator) although a writer for the Sopranos is a different person than David Chase who was the showrunner and basically the auteur behind the series. Far prefer the Sopranos personally, cold-blooded ruthless gangsters are just more likable than cold-blooded ruthless marketing executives.

I'm sorry, did you just reduce Spaced to brackets?

When watching Firefly, keep in mind its production was an uphill fight, the network got cold feet basically after the pilot (if not earlier), they were always demanding changes - making things complicated, I suppose, so they could pull the plug as soon as possible. The choice of broadcasting the episodes out of sequence is proof enough they wanted it to bomb IMO.

For anyone interested in getting an idea of the struggles they had to go through, the recently aired Browncoats TV special sheds some light on the subject.

My bad formatting there really, but it was supposed to be that Spaced follows on from Community as another splinter. I think Community and Archer have enough traits in common with AD that someone who enjoys that would enjoy those and I think similarly between Community and Spaced; the surrealism, self-awareness etc. is very similar barring the actual examples. I just don't think you could necessarily go from AD to Spaced and go "Oh, well, these are similar" unless you were talking about quality.

One of my absolute favourite little moments in the entire show is the reference back to that episode in series 2 when Duane meets Daisy and Tim in the pub and during the confrontation Tim cracks the "no hard feelings" joke and has a sly little "that was pretty funny wasn't it" look at Daisy and she gives him a little "yeah, that was pretty good" nod of approval. It's the lovely little warm character touches like that which make it more than a bunch of always quotable lines, excellent pop culture references and gloriously silly scenarios and elevate it to being one of the best sitcoms of all.

So there was this ridiculous action scene in the first five minutes of the first episode of Banshee. For whatever reason I stuck with it and this show is stupidly fun.

Currently watching the second season of Borgen (Danish political drama being aired via the BBC). Pretty enjoyable if not so much for the predictability of the machinations but for the performances of the main players.

Deception, a new show that just aired seems promising so far.

Just finished watching 8 seasons of Weeds. Actually started off very promising, peaked around Season 5 and then went incredibly downhill for the last two seasons. Also watching Grimm and getting really baked and laughing my ass off at Persons Unknown... What the hell is that show, like! :P

I have started re-watching Millennium again. It's really refreshing to watch a show that's actually dark. "Dark" these days seems to mean goofy fluff like Dexter.

    Also Lance. Everybody loves Lance.

Some random episodes of House reruns, 7th and 8th seasons. I haven't watched much of it since a few years ago but I thought the episodes were pretty intriguing, considering I have a soft spot for these kinds of doctor stories involving weird diseases.

Just finished re-watching the entirety of SG-1. <3

I don't feel like it hit the same heights as say say Farscape or BSG but in general I think it was more consistent with only a handful of poor episodes in the early seasons and most of the Ori storyline; certainly compared to Farscape, which veered between fantastic and utterly terrible - often in the same episode
