Desire for More Moderation on These Forums

These forums are becoming pretty rampant with blatant trolls and adbots.

Can we have more moderation, please? Don't know if it'd be a good idea to recruit from the community (no one springs to mind that'd be a good moderator), but we really need some more people moderating - or at least the moderators to temp/perm ban more regularly.

I suggested this a while back, and would agree it'd be a good thing.

You might find that R-F view on whose a troll and your view are somewhat different Althea.

Yes, that's true, but he's still got a point - this site is assaulted daily by droves of bots whose posts can still be found weeks or even months after they happen, and on top of that certain members (the group of which I'm likely a part) need someone to keep them in line.

I never liked the idea of mods regulating the users. I do agree they are needed for spam control, ordering forums and helping people. But actually enforcing some rules relies heavily on the interpretation of said rules and the relationship of the mods with the users. Cutting it short. Mods are humans. I've always advocated community self regulation. On the other hand, this is probably too much.

Personally, I just find it ironic that calls for more moderation are coming from a guy who publicly broadcasts his ignore list.

    Concerning spam control: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/foru...l=1#post120692

Concerning annoying people: Ignore them, either by not reading their posts, adding them to your ignore-list, or reporting insulting posts.

To be fair, in this case Kad isn't the one asking for moderation. And I think his response was quite appropriate, even though it might be a little sardonic.
It's commendable for the community that most people ignored the issue and continued with the topic at hand.

R-F is the one asking Nalano, not me (I'm all for less spam though, as it's been overwhelming of late). However past experience has shown me that moderators can be a mixed bag (power tends to go to peoples heads, and not in a good way).

Too many egos on this forum. Moderators might help nip that in the bud. Of course, moderators might also have egos and then >>>>>> :|

As of right now, spam bots control 7 of 8 new posts (with this being the other 1/8. telling, no?).

A good moderator will be someone wise enough to have not been antagonistic to people and be able to completely separate moderation and actively posting. The community is pretty good at responding to individuals who don't really fall in with the etiquette here, so most of the issue is simply the spamming. Besides, the people who put themselves forward as moderators more-often-than-not tend to be the good, honest folk on places like this. It's forums where there is a pre-existing source of 'power' (I feel very stupid for even having to acknowledge that this rubbish happens) where moderators can become a problem. I hardly think that'll occur here.
