Does this forum have a moderator?

You have a mess to clean up. Some spambots exploded all over the forum.

Heh, and they said the problem was drastically reduced. If this is drastically reduced, I'd hate to see what it would otherwise look like!

Well it is 5.40am in the land of tea, crumpets and bowler hats. We clearly need RPS staff in different time-zones - deport Jim to Australia.

I support this plan. We should deport all of them to various parts of the world, not only to combat the spambots, but to bring some culture to this damn site!

I'm not sure if culture originating from a person's arsehole is the kind of culture we want in this site...

Culture on RPS. I once read a review on another site - and for the life of me I do not recall which - that claimed RPS was complete bunk. The site said that (loosely quoting) 'the claim of RPS to be a satirical publication makes taking them seriously very difficult.

Ten minutes later, when I had finished laughing my ass off, I re-read the same article. Just to make sure I had read it correctly.

When I finished laughing that time I resolved to never read another article on that site.

Taking RPS seriously....culture...see, now I am laughing once more.

Blackcompany, can you link us to it, if you find it again.. could be worth a laugh ;)

Also, the spambots thing is know. Problem is, they're mostly actually humans posting, so standard captchas don't work! It is being worked on, the threads in the discussion forum are probably the best place to talk about it :)

Trying for the last hour to find that article. I remember it was on another gaming site, and criticized RPS reviews as unreliable due to the nature of the site as a satirical site. Absolutely hilarious to read it. Kind of like complaining about The Daily Show focusing on humor over reliable news....

Aw man, guess I've been punk'd. Better start going elsewhere for "serious" gaming news.

    Bring back some culture?

If the RPS staff are being shipped overseas then it will clearly be with khaki shorts, shirt and helmet and a solid supply of Earl Gray and tonic water.

It's been this way for months now. How hard can it be to delete them as they pop up? I'd be perfectly willing.

Is there anyway to block posts by certain people? This is getting a bit out of hand...

There is an ignore function, but it does not seem to block threads.

Maybe they should just pick a couple volunteers from the community to moderate and clean things up when needed.

I'm not volunteering (don't have the time, sorry), but I'm sure some other regulars would be willing. Other forums use volunteers as mods and it seems to work.

Regular business hours. We have to wait 'til regular business hours. The forums exploding on Sunday afternoon's been going on for a couple weeks now.

The spam doesn't seem to be targeted to this site's topic, so it seems some generic spambot, and thus I wonder how they are getting past the question about Mr. Rossignol's first name.

Perhaps there's some generic "automatic registration script" around that includes a database of answers to such questions for popular forums, and they just downloaded it?

Maybe adding a captcha to registration and perhaps the first 5 posts an account makes would help?
