Rather Proper Sabres - Mount & Blade: Napoleonic Wars with the RPS GrenOhDears

    ATEN-SHUN MAGGOTS!

    AT EASE

Ahem. This is a call to arms for all able members of RPS with a copy of the 'video-game' "Mount & Blade: Napoleonic Wars" to come and play with other like minded linesmen.

Sessions are 7:30PM Brit time. At the moment, that means 7:30 BST, or GMT +1.

A selection of us have been participating in battle already, as shown by Ayam's videos:

If you'd like to play with us, look for StrangLove, Head or Ivan Sidorenko on Steam. Alternatively (and the preferred option), join the RPS group chatroom on steam, and ask about fighting napoleon.

    More things!

Captain Head has advised that we take up arms in a proper campaign. The regiment we'd like to play as is the Household Cavalry 5th dragoons. Why? Well, in 1799 they were disbanded for mutiny, a seemingly fitting history to an RPS regiment. If you'd like to participate in this, post here and we'll see if it's feasible.

    REG-IIII-MENT! FAAAAALL AAAAHT!

    AT EASE.

I'd like to advise all those who'd like to play with us to try and find me, Stranglove, in the RPS steam chatroom, especially if you'd like to play in the campaign. It's very important that I know numbers and names, to assess whether this venture is feasible.

Also, I'd like to announce that we will be having a competition for our Steam group logo! Entries should be submitted via PM to me by whenever you can, in the form of a 184x184 image, in a suitably regal and heraldic form with whatever you think represents/will represent GOhD the best. Say, a pitchfork crossed with a musket, or whatever else you can think of.

Great work on the new image Ivan Sidorenko. Also, I'm enjoying the GrenOhDears so far, a small family unit who bake pies on Sunday.

That is a better title, so I've changed it. Thanks Heliocentric.

EDIT: or rather, I would, but I can't.

Well, do you actually have the 20+ members needed to play in a line battle yet? :P

Well, we shouldn't need that many for the whole 1810 campaign, considering that there are plenty of regiments signing up with only 10 men.

    BATTLE REPORT

Well, today's session went incredibly well, starting with some cavalry 'training' - Sword fighting and the like. First Lord of the Rearmost Admiralty Head Headington displayed his prowess with sword, slaying the russian dragoons for king and country. Everyone else was alright.

Afterwards, we migrated to a siege server. Playing as the glorious French light infantry, we set up some concise line postions and mowed down the russian hordes as they advanced to the scaling ladders. Unfortunately, our allies were pushed back by a breach in the wall, and we retreated, disoriented, to the safety of the flag, where we made our last stand. Captain of the King's toothbrush Sir Joseph of Sulphur acted valiantly in defending the fort, but his efforts were nothing when compared to First Specialist of the guard's hussar Egg Eggleton and Under secretary of the legion's own colours Drakken of the Aids, who both ranked highly on the scoreboard.

The next map heralded a fresh oppurtunity for our regiment: Partisans. As the attacking Russians, we chose to march, in column order, towards the enemy. Treasurer of the fourth dragoon's advanced skirmish battalion, Ayam ganbattleson, provided the troops with the commander's playlist with his excellent piping, and we soon gathered a small army of pubbies, sheparding them into the british defences. These attacks were repeated four times, each more terrible than the last, but the valiant british held off our glorious charges. This is where my story ends, but not before some screenshots captured by Egg and Ivan.

With any luck, cinematographer to the king's horses Ayam Ayamlleson will upload his footage from this gathering, at which point I'll link it here.

    Ta ta GrenOhDears.

There were some great mass charges, I wish I hadn't been one of the first to die in each charge. The thick walls of musket smoke, awkward leaps over barricades and many scythes swinging had me cursing the respawn back into a lonely field.
