    Desert island game soundtracks

Oppressive fascist communist libertarians have taken over the world and sent every freedom-loving man, woman, and sapient koala each to their own desert island where they must wile away their remaining days listening to their favourite video game soundtracks, the bastards. What would you bring?

    Here's my list:

PPPPPP, soundtrack to VVVVVV, by Souleye
Star Control 2 by Dan Nicholson and others
The 7th Guest by George Sanger
Spiderman and The X-Men in Arcade's Revenge by Geoff and Tim Follin
    Ico by Michiru Oshima
    Myst by Robin Miller

Good choice, but I think there's too few "great" pieces in there for me.

You're probably right, but I figured that with three and a half hours from SpellForce, I had some space for things that had a few tracks I really like.

Fallout's soundtrack is a masterful example of ambient isolation. That is all I'd require.
The Medallion of the Imperial Psychopath, a Napoleon: Total War AAR
For the Emperor!, a Total War: Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai AAR

All the Jeremy Soule stuff for the Eldar Scrolls games. Still enjoying listening to my Skyrim soundtrack, some beautiful pieces of music on there.

EVE Online one, I could pretend i'm in a spaceship and on those times on the beach sipping some coconut it would be really relaxing.

Final Fantasy 7 one if I want to feel a bit depressed/nostalgic.

I'd only NEED the Brütal Legend soundtrack (5 hours of brilliant metal), but I'd round it out with:
    Frozen Synapse
    Morrowind
    Planescape: Torment
    and Bastion.

    Morrowind
    Either Cave Story or VVVVVV
    Zeno Clash?
And the main menu theme from BF: Vietnam (1)
    Age of Empires 1?
    Halo 1 for hunting animals

It strikes me now that there's really not much truly, truly good videogame music. There's very little jazz or particularly out-there electronica, for instance, which saddens me.

That said, in the same way that the jazz musicians of the 30s-40s and whatever used musicals and other shite as their "standards" and turned them to gold, some young people now are doing amazing stuff with the popular music they grew up with:

(But the Zelda music is great to begin with)

You guys have picked some really great stuff. I'm particularly partial to:

Eve Online (how did I miss this? It's ambient techno bliss and you get the whole soundtrack in MP3 when you buy the game)
    Mirror's Edge
Katamari Damacy (the first 2 games' soundtracks are why I bought a PS2)
anything and everything by Jeremy Soule
and also Civilization 4 has an epic, approximately 12-hour soundtrack

This was actually harder than I thought, thinking of things I'd actually want to listen to many times, fitting different moods and not just going for "that sweet tune at the third boss". Maybe I'm over-thinking a hypothetical situation though. It is hypothetical.. right?

    Machinarium
    Beyond Good and Evil
    Torchlight 2
    Monkey Island
    Psychonauts
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
    Mirror's Edge
    Bastion

I forgot to mention the soundtrack to Bully by Shawn Lee! Love it!!

Also, thanks to Skalpadda for reminding me of World of Warcraft. I recently did a dump of all the music files and was astounded to find over 17 hours of beautiful music!

I feel like picking GTA IV would be cheating, but just give me IF99 or JNR.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

A while since I played this but from what I remember it has some great string quartet pieces that really fit the character of the game but could definitely be appreciated in isolation.

Off the top of my head. I'm sure I'm missing obvious things, but I'm tired.
