So my PC has a blu-ray player...

...but apparently won't play any blu-rays. I've tried WMP and VLC to no avail. Am I just missing a codec or do I need specific software? I've had this machine for almost 2 years but haven't attempted to play a BR until today. Any ideas?

WMP won't do it, and neither will VLC out of the box, and the methods for circumventing aren't legal since it breaks copy protection.

You can get something like PowerDVD or similar with native support.

Your Blu-Ray drive should've come with playback software e.g. PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc.

You can get VLC to play some encrypted Blu-Rays by downloading the files herein and following the instructions.

Blurays come in different version, the older version (1) and the newer version (2, good eh? lol ). Most the new discs are version 2, i think it is a case of just getting new drivers or firmware. I don;t knows the in's and outs of it, but someone mentioned it to me when I was buying a bluray player last years.
