    You and I know this but to the unwashed masses they think they're buying "Android" not "an Android". I don't blame the layman for being confused when their friends' phones are updated but not their own. If nothing else it's a matter of reputation that Google needs to manage a little more tactfully.

    Actually I believe that a large percentage of Android buyers have no idea they are buying an Android handset. To them they are just buying a HTC, Samsung, etc. phone. The lack of updates is probably also a minor issue to most as they bought the phone with the feel and features it had. Not because of the promise of things to come.
