I found necro pretty good. Primarily I spent half my time dodging/kiting while my minions and conditions did damage, the other half using the panic buttons you have. Definitely changed a lot from GW1 necros though, which is a bit of a shame tbh.

Mesmer was my personal favourite, the clones need a bit of a work but it was nice being able to cast and melee and have what are effectively explodeable minions all at the same time :p

Elementalist was great if you want pure casting and wider range of spells. It felt the most polished one but also a bit generic rpg caster class imo.

Elementalist comes into its own once you start swapping between attunements fast, which takes some getting used to. While I'll agree the staff may feel a bit more like other caster archetypes, melee weapons feel very different as they give a lot of movement abilities which just never show up in the usual caster build. It's my favorite class from what I've tried, with mesmer and guardian close behind, though I haven't tried engineer (I expect I'll make one anyway).

I did hear good things about using daggers on an ele in pvp. I should say it's like a generic caster in the context of the other GW2 classes, compared to other mmo casters it definitely has a lot more going for it like you say. Engineer was pretty interesting imo, I loved the packs that let you go full grenades or full medic, high on my list of possible alts.

It's funny, the more I learn about the Engineer, the more the kits remind me of TF2 classes. Turrets (Engineer), Flame Thrower (Pyro), Grenade Belt (Demoman), Med Kit (Medic). I wonder if this correlation is incidental or intentional. It certainly looks like fun and I can't wait to go out as a Sylvari packing a flame thrower. Mmph!

Gonna be rollin thief for my first character. The mobility and AoE capability of the shortbow is too much fun.

To be honest Anet have done a brilliant job of making all the classes feel unique in character with lots of room for customisation within the classes. I want one of all of them. :p

You'll need to put some gems into working there then.

It has to be said that £8.50 per character slot takes the piss, although not as much as £4.25 per extra bag slot per character. I know they're optional but still...

(and yes, idiot that I am I will pay it :/ )

I'll just put some stuff on the trading post and slowly accrue gems this way. I'll hold off for the character slots until I know whether GW2 will follow the GW1 model (standalone expansions that always came with 2 free slots).

For those wondering: Nightfall was indeed a lot less annoyingly crappy than Prophecies. At this rate, I should at least have a Hall of Whatever and might get one or two of the cosmetic things to carry over.

And I am finally getting my 8 or 9 bucks worth :p

Didn't read the 11 pages of this thread, i just wanted to point out that:

"WvW solves this by making you max level, with the abilities you've unlocked. This puts you at a disadvantage to levelcapped players but not a "level 15 fighting a level 60" disadvantage. PvP puts you at max level with all abilities unlocked, producing an even playing ground for the first freakin' time ever in an MMO."

False - GW1 already did that by allowing you to create a PvP character off the bat, with max level AND max gear.

Yeah, I agree... the whole PvP at the same level thing has already been done quite well by GW1 in the past. That said, I'm glad that they're carrying it over to GW2 as well, because it won't separate the community any more. ;P

I'll be honest though, I'd still have liked to see arenas that you could access in the PvE world where you could fight different teams at the level that you're at. Of course they wouldn't be that competitive, but I still think that it would be fun. I miss those days of beating people up in the Yak's Bend arena in GW1. ;P

GW1 isn't what I would consider an MMO.

My only experience with an MMO has been SWTOR; bought it first day of this year, played it religiously for like 3, maybe 4 months. After that it just got boring, and re-rolling a new character didn't help after a while.

GW2 for me might be the same thing; 3-4 months of fun, then become boring and tedious.... but it's the change I'm looking forward to the most. I'm still new to MMO's, so even though alot of the stuff here is borrowed from else where (like the dynamic events and such).. it's still new to me.

Playing it during the betas was fun, more exciting then I was having at the time on my subbed SWTOR chars. I also thought I could never get (back) into loving PvP after ToR until I had my hand in some WvW. First time I was in though I had no clue as tto where everyone was and what I was meant to do. I mean I knew what can be done after watching some videos on it, but at the given moment I was lost. Eventually found a group which lead me to a bigger group engaged in attacking the other server. Freaking loved it. Gameplay and controls felt really good and the ability to dash/dodge is a plus.

Again this enjoyment for something that isn't really new in the genre could well be because it's new to me... but at least with this I'm not paying a subscription so if I want to I could drop the game anytime I want.

Which used up a valuable character slot for a character that could only be used for PvP.

Word to the wise: The game will always get stale, especially considering the number of hours a day one must play in order to reach parity with the top. What keeps MMOs alive isn't gameplay but community.

I say this as a guy who hates the raiding endgame, yet played it for years. In every MMO I've played, what kept me going were the folks on my servers, and what killed them for me was the gameplay on its own. The game's really just there to give you reason to interact with other people.

Consequently, this is why I'm joining Jade Quarry: The same people who I shared a server with on AoC (Cimmeria), WAR (Phoenix Throne) and Rift (Sunrest), as well as folks I brought with me from WoW (Scarlet Crusade) are all on that server. Some people say they eschew drama, but in my opinion drama's the only reason to play an MMO.

Cheaper to buy a second account? But I guess there's drawbacks to that too...

Drawback being you won't have access to account-wide storage/achievements/other features. If that's not important to you, second account is probably better (ie. if you just want another class for instant PvP fun or to play different story combinations, without planning to spend a lot of time to play that alt otherwise).

As for bank slots, they're really not worth it unless you got every available character slot and bank extension already, in terms of money/inventory slots you gain.

@Nalano: And this is why I love the ability to join multiple guilds. Chances are you'd never be able to get all the people you know in the same guild, and so you'd have had to priorize some at the expense of others. With this each group can have their own guild and you can be in as many guilds as you have groups.

In today's Mailbox TB is answering question about GW2 having grinding. Question 3

I think, I'll see many players whine, that there is still grinding, due to their thought process that game only begins at lvl 80. I so hate WoW for it.
