The NYT isn't exactly expected to report on any culture timely and regularly. Hence the OP.

Guess I'm one of the few out here who doesn't have a headset and doesn't play any online games where communication is necessary.

I'm so distracted by what is usually taking place on screen that I can't catch the insults scrolling up fast on the left hand side of the screen nor be able to discern rather or not they're directed at me.

By the way.....Forumwarz - Funny shit, ironically relevant too. The whole world tends to know itself better than it believes that it does.

The irony here is that every team centric game I've played has a built in communication system that makes the actual teamspeak mostly obsolete and, more often than not, distracting and detrimental to the team performance because everyone's too busy talking to take note of background audio. Left 4 Dead series has the voice wheel, so does Battlefield 2142, and Tribes: Ascend has the VGS. There really isn't that much to talk about with these in place, at least at the level of a public game.

Conversely, of course, if you roll with the same crew, TS and Vent are still superior because then you don't have to deal with the vagaries of each and every game's internal VoIP.

And the sound quality is also much, much better.
