Rock Paper Fantasy Foot To Ball

Hello guys, last season we ran a pretty decent fantasy football league over at: http://fantasy.premierleague.com

I've renewed the season, so anyone who was in last season, you've automatically been re-added. If anyone else wants in, then go make a team before 11am Saturday and join the league with the invite code
    1392584-319590

You get unlimited team transfers until it kicks off, so if you're anything like me, you'll spend all morning making and remaking your team. :( I'm finding it rather difficult this season to fit in all the diminutive mercurial playmaker / false nine types that I love so much in football. Hazard, Oscar, Mata, Kagawa, Sigurddsson, Silva, there's too many!
I've currently gone for: (subject to almost immediate change)

    GK: - Szczesny (arsenal 5.5m)

    RB: - Coloccini (Newcastle 5m)
    CB: - Williams (Swansea 5m)
    CB: - Koscielny (Arsenal 5.5m)
LB: - Clichy (Man City 6m)

CM: - Yaya Toure (City 8m) - Vice Captain
    CM: - Michu (Swansea 6m)
CM: - Kagawa (Man Utd 8.5m)
    RM: - Mata (Chelsea 9.5m) - Captain
    LM: - Hazard (Chelsea 9.5m)

    CF: - Giroud (Arsenal 9m)

    Subs:

    Fabio (QPR)
    Demba Ba (Newcastle)
    Rickie Lambert (Southampton)
    GK: Gazzaniga (Southampton)

Which is definitely a team led by heart not head.

    Hrmm.

Do I accept that I won't look at the team after two weeks or stick with tradition and go to the bother of making one anyway and pretend I'm going to keep it up?

Do it! Making the team is the best bit.

This is why I always succumb, and have once again.

    My team:
    GK: Szscszsccszzzsszzscszzeszney, Pollitt
DF: Skrtel, Clichy, Williams, Shawcross, Fabio
MF: Bale, Lucas, Toure, Sessegnon, Valencia
    ST: Defoe, Tevez, Ba

Anybody going to try the player exchange thing?

It's probably going to end up being rubbish and I don't really know what the best strategy so I've ploughed most of my money into "safe bets" and then spread the rest over a mix of players who might be more valued as the season goes on. I've got Aguero, Britton, Cleverly, Fabio, Lambert, Miyaichi, Onuoha, Pogrebnyak, Rooney, Yaya Toure.

Here's what I've gone for. I generally half-arsedly try to keep up all season, but lapse for long periods of time.

    Krul, Cerny
    Kompany, Hangeland, Baines, Cuellar, Shawcross
Fellaini, Sessegnon, Sinclair, McClean, Y Toure
    Tevez, Jelavic, Ba

Slight Sunderland bias, but I seem to have broken my only self-imposed rule and included some Newcastle players, for shame.

Wasn't going to bother this season after the stupid new bonus system last year really took a lot from the game. Just chucked a team together though, and built it in a way that I'll be forced to make a few transfers in the first couple of weeks to try and get myself interested again. We'll see how that goes :)

My thought exactly. I wonder how well I did? Hopefully I did better than the joke account I set up under John Walker's name where I attempted to pick only injured players before realising this was way too much effort when I couldn't even look after my own team! If I did worse than that . . . well that would be just embarrassing.

Heh, I was impressed with the effort that went into the John Walker account.

I'm gonna chuck in a team this year too, didn't do too bad last year I think, placed about in the middle of the rps-heap.

    GK: De Gea, Begovic
DF: Hangeland, Figueroa, A Ferdinand, Michael Turner,
MF: Joe Allen, Russel Martin, Clint Dempsey, Aaron Ramsey, Van Der Vaart
FW: Danny Graham, Rooney, Van Persie,

The current person in the world with the most points has 76 points and 10.5 mil in the bank.

I personally just went for 3 players from both Reading and Chelsea, since both teams are playing two games this week.

Git :) I talked myself out of him at the last minute and went with Allen instead despite Liverpool's early fixtures. Despite only joining with 24 hours to go this season I managed to second guess myself even worse than I normally do. My initial squad would have broken the 60 point barrier whereas my final selection is looking like it will be a stretch to reach 30.

You chaps mind if I join the league next gameweek?

I'm already in a couple of leagues but had no idea there was an RPS one!

Awesome, just added my team. I've had a reasonably good week so far and still have the other Chelsea and Reading games to go. My team is currently:

    GK: Vorm, Ruddy
DF: Hangeland, Williams, Shorey (didnt even play!), Figueroa, Tierney
MF: Bale, Lampard, Yaya Toure, Mata, Britton
    ST: Pogrebnyak, Aguero, Torres

So basically as many Chelsea/Reading players I could cram in without totally sacrificing Gameweek 3, when neither teams play a game. I'm hoping to fit Clint Dempsey in over the next few weeks as he served me well last year. Unless he moves clubs, of course - I made that mistake before with Charlie Adam.

Tevez, Clichy and Toure have made my score a bit more palatable with Valencia still to play.
