Quite looking forward to Eador actually. Had my eye on that for a long time now. At least it's finished and ready to go and not still in some alpha state like some others.

Someone pointed me at Articy a while back and I'd forgotten about it - interesting idea but...

I'm not sure putting game design tools onto a game delivery service is a great idea anymore than I'd expect iTunes to sell instruments... ;)

Tools which make actual games - OK, Steam Workshop (on which Steam Greenlight is built) allows for collaboration and sharing of what you make - but modelling tools and art tools and a design tool are slightly odd things.

and why the fuck isn't FRAPS(*) on there yet? :)

(*) of course there are free alternatives which are better but...

On another note, iTunes DOES sell Garageband. Well, the App Store does. :P

They might've reached a publishing agreement with Steam before Greenlight started. A bunch of games have been released post-Greenlight because of that.

Plus there were 100s of games submitted to Valve before Greenlight that hadn't been looked at yet. Everything I've read said they're still looking at stuff. I believe Defender's Quest got the go-ahead after Greenlight was announced.

Absolutely this. Forever. The beta was very promising.

I didn't get into the beta. How good is it on a scale of 0 to...I dunno...Heroes of Might and Magic III?

Also, when is release planned for?

Fuck Valve for inventing Greenlight. And fuck the Steam community.
You honestly expect the Steam community to pick decent stuff? Really? Really?

Not that I'm backing Inquisitor, but the biggest problem with Greenlight is that it's on Steam, because the Steam community is friggin' horrible. No, not just the forums, but in general. If you were hoping for some enlightened utopia of indie gaming or something you were always going to be very disappointed.

They're definitely their own beasts, so it's hard to compare them so directly. That said, fans of HoMM3 will feel very comfortable in these new shoes. They spent a lot of time getting things to feel right and fleshing out the lore, and I feel they've done a great job, despite a few minor things I and others have mentioned on the beta forums. Nothing major, just small tweaks. I'm not sure how much I can really talk about, but there's a lot to like with Eador. I really recommend giving Eador Genesis a shot on GOG to get a feel for mechanics.

Not sure on the release either.

Seems pretty ridiculous that someone has to pay $100 just for their game to have a chance.

I take it you didn't see Greenlight before the 100$ requirement? It was filled with spam, fake games, people submitting games that weren't theirs, inappropriate content, and myriads upon myriads of imbeciles thinking it was a service to ask Steam to include a certain games and "submitting" BattleField 3 over and over again.

Shitty as it might be, it was much worse before.

With all respect due, I'm pretty skeptical about some posts that look too much like filler from accounts trying to hit the magic 10 so they can finally start new threads.

Glad to see Groboto hitting the target, I've been using Groboto since V1 and it's an incredibly good piece of kit, worth every penny.

The only downside is that it's an absolute beast that'll grind your PC to a halt in seconds if you've not got the grunt to really push things. Still, it's fabbo.

I asked on the GOG forums if anyone had figured this out yet, but I'll ask here too.

There's a game, Galactic Arms Race. It's currently being sold on Desura:

    http://www.desura.com/games/galactic-arms-race

But buying on Desura gets you a Steam key. But it's not on Steam (do a search). Instead, it's on Greenlight.

    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=120872919

But it IS in the Bronasium.

The hell is going on? Abuse of Greenlight? False advertising? I'm so confused.

It's no news that a game can be on Steam and not available through the Steam storefront. Usually because the game is still in some kind of pre-launch phase, or it was previously available and has been pulled.

Since it is present in the Steam registry, it seems reasonable to me to assume that their promise of a Steam key is not a lie, but at the same time they're trying to get their game on the Steam storefront proper through Greenlight.

How they could end up in this limbo is a story I'd like to hear.

@Alms and Johnki, I work on Galactic Arms Race. The game is fully integrated into Steam with achievements, and cloud storage, however it just doesn't have public ad space. Why? Long story, but basically due to a 2-year legal issue with the university where it was created.

Just letting you know it isn't fake or some kind of scam. We will be doing a "pay what you want" model (like the humble bundles) soon.

In the mean time, PM me here and you can request as many Steam Product Keys for the game as you wish (for friends, family, WoW guild, whoever). Then try out the game and vote us up if you like it.

Some of the games are already available on the developers' sites or Desura.

Probably cheaper those two places too - you'll probably end up paying for the convenience of just opening Steam instead of using your web browser.

Someone please, PLEASE, explain to me why this is allowed on Greenlight when Seduce Me was kicked off?

I literally cannot Google that game without tons and tons of porn from the game showing up.
