No DICE: Patrick Liu leaving and joining Rovio

    http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...dice-for-rovio

This may be the first good decision anyone at DICE has made the past 5 years.

    On the other hand, Rovio.

Yeah really... Rovio is responsible for what? All these kids and soccer moms wearing red t shirts with bird faces on them?
Not that many PC gamers will miss him.

"Rovio feels awesome... big ideas... disruptive."

Uh, okay. Disruptive as in having to listen to people play Angry Birds in public?

Not like DICE is on the cutting edge of videogame design... Seriously, I think it's time to add DICE to the EA casualties list, together with Westwood, Pandemic, Criterion etc.

I'd still work at DICE over Rovio, personally. Working on Battlefield derivatives beats working on Angry Birds derivatives.

Plus, there's the oh-so-slight chance of working on Mirror's Edge 2.

Isn't this the 2nd big name DICE guy leaving in a short time? I could swear I saw a similar story not even a month ago...

Surprised by the anti-Dice sentiment ITT. Then again I've barely played the BF games, so I still associate them mostly with Mirror's Edge and Midtown Madness 3.

Don't forget Bioware and I don't feel too hopeful for Visceral once Dead Space doesn't make the 17 million copies EA want it to

I don't think anyone could ever answer that. Senior Producer, Senior Development Director, Lead Designer, it basically all only means The Guy In Charge.

Right, those are all different roles. Its like saying "who knows what a producer, or an assistant director or the director does on a movie. It basically all means The Guy In Charge."

Don't talk out of your ass if you do not know the answer to someone's question.

He goes around making sure shit is getting done, and what shit is feasible and what isn't. In a big development team it is common that people (designers and programmers both) get stuck, derailed or tunnelvision in some feature, or maybe there are needed tools to buy. They also take decisions that have to be taken like "does this area make it into the game, knowing that it'll take 3 more weeks to finish" or "should we use embedded LUA or create our own scripting language" or "do we need to hire one more C++ programmer or just reassign one from other team". Schedule and budget, all to report to Project Leader and the executive part of the company.

And Senior means he's been doing it for a while. There are little to no Junior Producers positions available in the industry, they are filled inhouse or by interns from friend schools.
