2500k and 2550k a thing of the past?

I've noticed rising prices for both CPUs and some retailers even removing them from their stock entirely.

Are they goners or is there a simple shortage?

They're not officially retired, but since they've been replaced by the 3570k supply may start drying up. Even more so with the continuing demand for the old processors due to the less impressive overclocking potential of the 3570k.

That is a shame really as I wanted to buy a new desktop in october and was hoping to get a 2550k. Even more so as the 3570k is easily 20€ more expensive.

Well the 2550k was always a relatively rare chip. The 2500k is still going strong in the US, so this may just be a blip.

*checks prices* the 2500k is still around in Denmark, but it costs a little more than the 3570k. Guess they cut shipments to the EU before shipments to the US. Color (sorry, colour) me surprised.

It isn't nearly as difficult as you might think
